Week 12 in college football was a crazy one. Minnesota lost their first game of the season at Iowa, and Georgia held off Auburn on the road. All of this will be over shadowed by Tua Tagovailoa’s season-ending hip injury. Here are this weeks college football power rankings.
1. Ohio State 10-0
last week: Win at Rutgers 56-21
next week: Vs. Penn State
The Buckeyes took care of Rutgers on Saturday. No surprise here, but they’ll be tested the next two weeks against Penn State and Michigan.
2. LSU 10-0
last week: Win at Ole Miss 58-37
next week: Vs. Arkansas
No let down spot for LSU as they took care of Ole Miss on the road. They’re one win away from clinching their spot for the SEC championship game.
3. Clemson 11-0
last week: Win vs. Wake Forest 52-3
next week: Bye
Clemson continues to roll. They have a bye week coming up before they play in-state rival South Carolina. Can the Gamecocks upset another top-5 team this season?
4. Georgia 9-1
last week: Win at Auburn 21-14
next week: Vs. Texas A&M
Georgia is starting to look like the real deal again. They held off Auburn after getting out to a 21-0 lead on Saturday. The Bulldogs need to win out to get into the playoff.
5. Alabama 9-1
last week: Win at Mississippi State 38-7
next week: Vs. Western Carolina
Nick Saban have some questions to answer. Tua Tagovailoa’s season is done after suffering a season-ending hip injury, and most likely Alabama’s playoff chances.
6. Oregon 9-1
last week: Win vs. Arizona 34-6
next week: At Arizona State
The Ducks dominated off their bye against Arizona. Justin Herbert looked impressive again as their defense is starting to rebound back to how they played in September.
7. Utah 9-1
last week: Win vs. UCLA 49-3
next week: At Arizona
This Utah team is so good. They arguably have the best defense in the country, and can slow down any offense that is in their way.
8. Oklahoma 9-1
last week: Win at Baylor 34-31
next week: Vs. TCU
What a crazy comeback for the Sooners on Saturday. After being down 28-3, they somehow found their way back into it and won outright over Baylor.
9. Penn State 9-1
last week: Win vs. Indiana 34-27
next week: At Ohio State
Penn State held off Indiana at home. They get back in the win column, but that isn’t going to be easy next week going up against Ohio State.
10. Florida 9-2
last week: Win at Mizzou 23-6
next week: Bye
Despite Florida not playing for much outside of a New Year’s Day bowl, they handed it to Mizzou in 40 degree weather. Not bad for the boys from the sunshine state.
11. Michigan 8-2
last week: Win vs. Michigan State 44-10
next week: At Indiana
Ever since the Wolverines lost to Penn State, they really have turned a corner in their performance. They beat up their little brother pretty good, and will probably be a pretty tough matchup for Ohio State in a few weeks.
12. Minnesota 9-1
last week: Loss at Iowa 23-19
next week: At Northwestern
Minnesota’s Cinderella season has suffered it’s first lost. This was a tough spot for the Gophers after beating Penn State at home the week before. They still have a chance to win the Big Ten West.
13. Notre Dame 8-2
last week: Win vs. Navy 52-20
next week: Vs. Boston College
After some people thought Navy could hang around with Notre Dame, the Irish dominated the Midshipman at home. Notre Dame might have hit their low point in the season already and have rebounded nicely.
14. Baylor 9-1
last week: Loss vs. Oklahoma 34-31
next week: Vs. Texas
What a meltdown by Baylor on Saturday. This was the game of the year for them and completely choked it away in the second half. So much for an undefeated season and probably an outside shot at the playoff.
15. Wisconsin 8-2
last week: Win at Nebraska 37-21
next week: Vs. Purdue
The Badgers are still having a nice season despite their two losses. They’ll have a chance to win the Big Ten West in two weeks against Minnesota.
16. Auburn 7-3
last week: Loss vs. Georgia 21-14
next week: Vs. Samford
Going down 21-0 against Georgia is going to make it difficult to make a comeback. Auburn had a shot at it, but couldn’t pull through. The game of their season is coming up in a few weeks.
17. Texas A&M 7-3
last week: Win vs. South Carolina 30-6
next week: At Georgia
The Aggies beat South Carolina convincingly at Kyle Field. Although Texas A&M sits at 7-3 right now, they finish the season with Georgia and LSU. Not ideal for them.
18. Washington 6-4
last week: Bye
next week: At Colorado
Washington got a much needed bye this week. This has been a tough season for the Huskies as the wins just haven’t been there. This team is still good and can finish on a high note.
19. Iowa State 6-4
last week: Win vs. Texas 23-21
next week: Vs. Kansas
The Cyclones get passed Texas on a game-winning field goal. This wasn’t the prettiest game for either side, but Iowa State was able to get it done at home against the Longhorns.
20. Memphis 9-1
last week: Win at Houston 45-27
next week: At South Florida
The Tigers continue to roll in the American conference. Another win keeps them on top of their division. They do need to win both games to clinch a spot in the conference championship game, and one of the teams they face is 9-1 Cincinnati.
21. Oklahoma State 7-3
last week: Win vs. Kansas 31-13
next week: At West Virginia
Oklahoma State had no problem with Kansas on Saturday. The Cowboys can finish off the season strong, and cap it off with a win over Oklahoma in two weeks. We’ll see if that’s possible.
22. Texas 6-4
last week: Loss at Iowa State 23-21
next week: At Baylor
Texas is going to be a little upset going into next weeks game against Baylor. Don’t be surprised if the Longhorns come out firing against a deflated Baylor team.
23. Iowa 7-3
last week: Win vs. Minnesota 23-19
this week: Vs. Illinois
With the win over Minnesota, Iowa still has an outside shot at winning the Big Ten West. What a great win at home for the Hawkeyes over undefeated Minnesota.
24. Miami 6-4
last week: Bye
this week: At Florida International
The U had the week off preparing for their rival Florida International. Miami’s season has had quite a pleasant turn around.
25. Cincinnati 9-1
last week: Win at South Florida 20-17
this week: Vs. Temple
Cincinnati is doing everything possible to lose games, but they still keep winning. At the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about.
