Week 15 QB Start, Sit Fantasy Strategy: Tannehill Keeps Rolling

Coming into week 15 and fantasy playoffs, a good quarterback matchup could be the difference between an important win and a tough loss for your team. Some quarterbacks like Jared Goff and Ryan Tannehill have some pretty strong matchups, and should definitely be considered as potential streamers. Some usual starts like Josh Allen and Kirk Cousins have tough matchups this week and should be though twice about when it comes to starting them. Here are my recommendations for which quarterbacks to sit and which to start in week 15.

Start ‘Em

Jared Goff

Jared GoffGoff’s been on the sit list for a while, but he’s had a hot streak as of late. He put up 25 points in PPR leagues in week 13 and 16.1 points in week 14. They’re up against Dallas this week who have been kind to opposing quarterbacks. They allowed Trubisky to rack up 32.1 points and Josh Allen to pick up 23.5 the week prior. The Rams offense looked fantastic against the Seahawks and I’m expecting them to carry that momentum into this good matchup against the Cowboys.

Baker Mayfield

baker mayfieldBaker Mayfield has had two sub-12 PPR performances over the past two weeks. The Browns are up against the Cardinals this week. The Cardinals allowed the Steelers quarterback Devlin Hodges only 13.5 PPR points, but the week before allowed Jared Goff to have a big 25 point game. The Cardinals have been one of the easiest teams to throw against this season. They allow an average 294.2 passing yards per game, the most in the league. Plus, they allow an average 28.8 points per game, the 3rd most in the league. With how the Browns have been playing lately I’m expecting them to have an easier time against the Cardinals and I’m expecting big points from Mayfield.

Ryan Tannehill

The Titans are rolling into this game on a 4-game winning streak and have only lost one of their past seven games. Those seven games mark the beginning of Tannehill’s stint as starter. He’s really galvanized the Titans offense, and has put up an average 22 fantasy points per game since he took over, with a high 32.4 and a low of 13.8. The Titans are up against the Texans, who just allowed Drew Lock to put up 23.9 fantasy points and allowed 24.3 points from Tom Brady the week prior. The Titans are incredibly hot, and I think Tannehill is going to have a big game against the Texans this week.

Jameis Winston

jameis winstonWinston is questionable for this next week due to a fracture in his thumb. However, he played with the same fracture against the Colts, and had a huge game in spite of it. He completed 33 of 45 passes for 456 yards and 4 touchdowns. He also threw 3 interceptions, but that didn’t stop him from racking up 34.7 fantasy points. I think he’s going to be started again this week despite the injury. Mike Evans is doubtful for this next game, so their passing game will probably take a hit. However, they’re up against a Lions defense that allows the third most passing yards per game on average, and they still have Chris Godwin, so I think Winston is still a good start.

Ryan Fitzpatrick

Fitzpatrick is a risky one for this week. Fitzpatrick’s start all depends on if DeVante Parker is playing this Sunday. Parker is under concussion protocol but practiced today (Wednesday) and it’s looking like the Dolphins are trying to get him ready to play on Sunday. The Dolphins are up against a bottom 10 Giants pass defense, so if Parker is in I’m expecting an explosive performance from Fitzpatrick who put up over 23 points in two of his last three games.

Josh Allen

Josh Allen has been a fantastic fantasy quarterback this season, but I don’t see a big game for him this Sunday. Josh Allen showed that he is vulnerable to tough defenses with a 10.7 fantasy point performance against the Ravens last week. The Steelers, their next opponent, have been a tough passing defense this season and lead the league in overall takeaways, coming in 2nd for interceptions specifically with 18 on the season. I think it’ll be a great game, but I don’t think Josh Allen is going to have a stunning fantasy performance.

Sam Darnold

sam darnoldDarnold is going up against the Ravens this week which is looking like a rough matchup. As said before, the Ravens held Allen to 10.7 points last week. Darnold has had 4 games over 16 points in his past 5 matchups, with three of those being above 20. He’s had some rougher performances too this season, with a -6.7-point game against New England and a 12.5 point game against Miami of all teams. I’m expecting the Ravens to contain Darnold pretty well this week, so I wouldn’t start him.

Mitch Trubisky

Trubisky is coming off a hot 32.1-point game against the Cowboys and has been trending up with an 18.9 point game in week 12 and a 23.9 point game in week 13. Regardless, I don’t think he’s a great start this week. Those three performances came against the Giants, Lions, and Cowboys, some of the easiest teams to throw the ball against this season. They’re up against the Packers this week who have been a better pass defense than some of these teams, so I’m not expecting as big of a game from Trubisky.

Kirk Cousins

Kirk CousinsCousins has been a pretty solid fantasy start in the latter half of the season, but I don’t think he’s going to do as well against the Chargers this week. The Chargers have been tough to throw against this season, allowing Minshew 13.6 points last week and Drew Lock 12.9 points the week before. I wouldn’t start Cousins, as I’m expecting them to rely more on the run game this week.

Jacoby Brissett

Brissett came back from a low-scoring streak with a 22.6-point performance against the Buccaneers last week. However, I think he might be in for another low-scoring game against the Saints. Without T.Y. Hilton, Brissett and the Colts passing game has been struggling. Plus, the Saints are a tough defense to throw against. Overall, I’m expecting low production from Brissett this weekend.
