The Week 16 College Basketball Power Rankings have arrived! Three of the top five teams in college basketball fell this week, as we start to wrap up the regular season of college basketball. Here are this weeks rankings.
1. Kansas 25-3
Kansas finds themselves back on top of the College Basketball world. They knocked off Baylor on the road over the weekend, and are also tied for first with the Bears in the Big 12. The Jayhawks are starting to look like the best team in college hoops.
2. Gonzaga 27-2
Gonzaga suffered their first loss since Thanksgiving weekend last Saturday. They fell to BYU 91-78 on the road, but still remain in first place of the West Coast Conference. The Bulldogs will still be a one-seed come March.
3. Baylor 24-2
Baylor couldn’t get the job done against Kansas at home over the weekend. The Bears fell for the first time since November 8, and are now tied with Kansas for first place in the Big 12. Let’s see if there will be a third matchup in the conference tournament.
4. Dayton 25-2
Dayton continues to roll through their conference as they sit at 14-0 in the Atlantic 10. The Flyers took care of Duquesne over the weekend, and have four regular season games remaining to finish off the perfect conference record.
5. San Diego State 26-1
San Diego State is undefeated no more! The Aztecs fell to UNLV 66-63 over the weekend. They should still be a one seed come March unless they fall again. However, this feels unlikely given their play this season.
6. Duke 23-4
Duke bounced back against Virginia Tech over the weekend after their horrendous loss against NC State last week. The Blue Devils suffered an ugly loss, but that shouldn’t stop them from running the table in the ACC tournament.
7. Florida State 24-4
Florida State had an impressive comeback against Louisville on Monday night. The Seminoles have played great with Trent Foster in the lineup this year, and they could be a sleeper to get to the Final Four.
8. Kentucky 22-5
Kentucky is back on roll again finding themselves winning six straight games. The Wildcats have a great offense that can carry them deep into the tournament. However, they have random games where they slip up.
9. Maryland 22-5
Maryland had their nine-game winning streak snapped on Sunday when they went to Ohio State. The Terrapins have lost all five games on the road this season. They still have two away games left, so let’s see how they fair.
10. Villanova 21-6
Villanova picked up straight wins, which all came on the road. Their recent win was a big one as it came against Xavier. They are right behind Seton Hall and Creighton for first place in the Big East with four games left.
11. Louisville 23-6
Louisville has hit a bit of a slump losing three of their last five games. The Cardinals choked away a game against Florida State on Monday, which now brings them to four losses in ACC play. Let’s see if they can turn it around.
12. Seton Hall 20-7
Seton Hall remains on top of the Big East after their win over St. John’s this weekend. They also knocked off Butler last week as well, and are 11-3 in conference. Creighton and Villanova are right on their table, and they have to play them one more time.
13. Iowa 19-8
Iowa took care of business against Ohio State last week, and are one of the many teams tied for third place in the Big Ten. The Hawkeyes have a tough final stretch of the season, so it will be interesting how they fair.
14. Creighton 22-6
Creighton has been red hot lately winning nine of their last 10 games. They are now in second place in the Big East and are looking to win the conference for the first time since joining. They have a date with Seton Hall to finish the season.
15. Oregon 21-7
Oregon went 1-1 last week, which made them fell to 21-7 on the field. They are now tied for second place with Colorado and UCLA as Arizona State sits atop of the Pac-12. The Ducks have a lot to work on before March.
16. Auburn 23-4
Auburn finally got back in the win column after knocking off Tennessee at home this past Saturday. The Tigers had to come from behind to secure the win, but they got it done. They are tied with LSU for second in conference.
17. BYU 23-7
BYU has played incredible over the last month. They have won nine out of their last 10, and knocked off Gonzaga over the weekend. The Cougars are hot at the right time with March right around the corner.
18. Colorado 21-7
Colorado slipped up this weekend to UCLA, and have fallen out of first place in the Pac-12. The Buffaloes are right in the thick of things in their conference, but need to finish strong with a favorable schedule.
19. Michigan 18-9
Michigan has turned a corner since their mid-season woes. The Wolverines have won seven of their last eight games and are making a late season push at the right time. They could even win the Big Ten Tournament.
20. Penn State 20-7
Penn State slipped up last week after losing to Illinois and Indiana. They were ranked as high as nine in the AP Poll, and couldn’t hold their own. Their schedule isn’t the easiest either, so it will be an interesting finish.
21. Ohio State 18-9
Ohio State has also turned a corner at the right time in the year. The Buckeyes have won six of their last eight games, and are looking to make a last second run towards the top of the power rankings.
22. Michigan State 18-9
Michigan State finds themselves back in the power rankings, but need to find their footing. The Spartans have lost four of their last six games, which is very unlike Tom Izzo’s teams. Then again, it’s not March, yet.
23. Houston 21-7
Houston sits at 11-4 in the American Athletic Conference, and are tied with Cincinnati for first place. The Cougars have three games left, and one with the Bearcats, which could decide the regular season conference.
24. Texas Tech 18-9
Texas Tech has won six of their last eight games, and could be heating up at the right time. The Red Raiders are 9-5 in the Big 12, and are in possession of third place. The runner-up from last season wants their say in March.
25. West Virginia 19-9
West Virginia is in free-fall at the worst time of the season. The Mountaineers have lost five of their last six games, and are 7-8 in the Big 12. Their offense has been terrible this season, so that will cost them in March.
