The last weekend of the year where every college team is playing regular season matchups. Some conferences start their tournaments this week, as teams make their final push towards March. Here are this weeks college basketball power rankings.
1. Kansas 26-3
Kansas is looking like the best team in the country at the moment. They took care of business again this week against Oklahoma State and Kansas State. They have TCU and Texas Tech remaining on the schedule.
2. Gonzaga 29-2
Gonzaga rebounded nicely after last weekend’s loss. They took down San Diego and St. Mary’s this past week to wrap of regular season play. If they win the West Coast Conference tournament, then they should be a lock for a one seed.
3. Dayton 27-2
Dayton is 16-0 in the Atlantic-10 conference with two games remaining. With how San Diego State has played this week, they could be a team that slips in as the final one seed in March. We’ll see how the mid-majors finish.
4. San Diego State 28-1
San Diego State finished up the regular season this weekend with a win over Nevada. The Aztecs have been playing a little bit sloppy down the stretch, which could hurt them at the most crucial time of the season.
5. Kentucky 24-5
Kentucky has been red hot over the last month, and on an eight game winning streak. They knocked off Auburn at home, and clinched first place in the SEC regular season. Let’s see if they can finish the job in the tournament.
6. Baylor 25-3
Baylor has lost two out of their last three over the last week. They were upset by TCU on the road on Saturday, and have Texas Tech and West Virginia to finish up the season. Can they get back on track?
7. Seton Hall 21-7
Seton Hall is in the driver seat to win the Big East regular season this year. They have a two game lead over Creighton, but still have a game left with them, along with Villanova. All in all, the Pirates are legit.
8. Louisville 24-6
Louisville took care of business Sunday against Virginia Tech. They bounced back after their meltdown against Florida State last Monday. The Cardinals now sit in first place of the ACC. hat a turnaround the last few weeks.
9. Oregon 22-7
With multiple teams falling this week, Oregon is the beneficiary of jumping up the power rankings. They knocked off Arizona and Oregon State this week, and a half game behind UCLA for first place.
10. Florida State 24-5
Florida State couldn’t hang on against Clemson on the road this weekend. The Seminoles were upset, and now find themselves a half game back of Louisville for first place in the ACC. Let’s see how they bounce back.
11. Maryland 23-6
After coming back against Michigan State in the first matchup, Maryland wasn’t able to do it again this weekend. The Terrapins were dominated by the Spartans, but are still in control of first place in the Big Ten.
12. Duke 23-6
Duke had a brutal week at the worst time of the year. They lost to Wake Forest and Virginia on the road, and fall to 23-6 on the season. The Blue Devils have a lot of work to do before the tournament starts.
13. Villanova 22-7
Villanova saw their winning streak snapped this weekend by a very good Providence team. They’re tied with Creighton for second place in the Big East, and will look to make a run in the Big East tournament.
14. Iowa 20-9
After falling to Michigan State earlier this week, they bounced back against Penn State at home to get them to their 20th win this season. The Hawkeyes have been playing great basketball thanks to Luka Garza.
15. BYU 24-7
BYU finished the season on a nine game winning streak, and remained undefeated in the month of February. They’ll be the second seed in the West Coast Conference tournament that kicks off later this week.
16. Michigan State 20-9
Michigan State is one a three game winning streak with two wins coming against Iowa and Maryland. The Spartans seem to finally have their footing, and getting it just at the right time.
17. Creighton 22-7
Creighton had all week to prepare for St. John’s, and lost by 20 on the road. This was a bad loss for the Bluejays, but they still have two games remaining to redeem themselves before the conference tournament.
18. Auburn 24-5
Auburn couldn’t finish on the road against Kentucky over the weekend. The Tigers are starting to slip up at the worst time losing three of their last five games. They still have two game remaining on the schedule before the SEC tournament.
19. Ohio State 20-9
Ohio State finds themselves on a nice three game winning streak with wins over Maryland and Michigan during that stretch. The Buckeyes have won eight of their last ten games, and are one of the hottest teams in the nation.
20. Houston 22-7
Houston took care of business against Cincinnati over the weekend. They are in first place and hold the tie-breaker over Tulsa. However, they do have tough matchups against UConn and Memphis, so they’ll have to earn the one seed.
21. Penn State 21-8
After being ranked ninth in the AP Poll, the Nittany Lions have lost three of their last four, and are falling in the Big Ten standings. Penn State has Michigan State and Northwestern to close out their season.
22. Illinois 20-9
Illinois is back in the top-25, and have won four games in a row. They finish off Big Ten play with Ohio State and Iowa this week. If they want a double bye in the Big Ten Tournament, then they’ll have to win at least of these last two.
23. Virginia 21-7
Don’t look now, but Virginia is playing their best basketball of the season at the right time. They knocked off Duke over the weekend, and have won six in a row. They sit at 13-5 in the ACC standings.
24. Wisconsin 19-10
Wisconsin has won six games in a row and are tied for second place in the Big Ten with Michigan State and Illinois. They have Northwestern and Indiana to finish off the season, so they are a team that should get the double bye.
25. Michigan 18-11
Michigan slipped up this week losing their two games against Wisconsin and Ohio State. The Wolverines caught fire earlier this month, and need to find some more of it before the season is over.
