The playoff picture is almost in place for January. 10 of 12 playoff spots have been clinched, and the Bengals clinched the number one spot in the 2020 NFL Draft. Here are this weeks NFL power rankings.
1. Ravens 13-2
Baltimore clinched home field advantage throughout the playoffs with their win over the Browns on Sunday. The Ravens had 481 yards of offense in their win, and will be able to rest starters next week, as the healthiest team in the league can stay intact.
2. Packers 11-3
Green Bay will take on Minnesota in what will most likely be for the NFC North on Monday night. The Packers need to continue to win in hopes of wrapping up a bye for the playoffs. They also hold the tiebreaker over Minnesota as they beat them earlier this season.
3. Saints 12-3
New Orleans secured a win over Tennessee on Sunday. Unfortunately, they don’t control their own destiny in trying to get a first-round bye. The Saints will need a win and get help from other teams to try to make that happen.
4. 49ers 12-3
The 49ers hung on against the Rams late Saturday night. They’ll need to beat Seattle to lock up the number one seed in the NFC. Their loss to Atlanta last week might cost them a first-round bye and the division.
5. Patriots 12-3
New England clinches their 11th straight AFC East title. They held off Buffalo late to secure their 12th win of the season. Now, their goal is to hold on to the second bye in the AFC. They have the Dolphins to close out the season, so it looks like a done deal.
6. Chiefs 11-4
Kansas City dominated Chicago from start to finish. The Chiefs are starting to look like the real deal at the right time of the season. Let’s see if they can continue this momentum into January.
7. Seahawks 11-4
Seattle fell to Arizona at home Sunday afternoon. As good as the Seahawks record is, they only have a +12 point differential being seven games over .500. This should be a concern for Seahawks fans.
8. Vikings 10-4
Minnesota has a playoff spot clinched, but can win the division if they can beat Green Bay on Monday night, and Chicago the following week. Being able to host a home game for the Vikings will be huge.
9. Texans 10-5
Houston held off Tampa Bay on Saturday to clinch the AFC South, but what a sloppy win it was for them. They were outplayed by the Bucs, but luckily Jameis Winston turned the ball over five times to get them the 23-20 win on the road.
10. Bills 10-5
Buffalo fell to New England on Saturday in Forborough. Josh Allen couldn’t finish off the comeback drive late in the fourth quarter. The Bills are locked in to the fifth seed for the playoffs.
11. Eagles 8-7
Philadelphia got a huge home win over Dallas to take the lead in the NFC East. They now need to refocus for their game against the Giants next Sunday because a letdown spot is possible here.
12. Titans 8-7
Despite their loss to New Orleans on Sunday, Tennessee does hold the tiebreaker over Pittsburgh for the sixth seed. They’ll be able to clinch a spot next week with a win over Houston.
13. Steelers 8-7
The Steelers fell to the Jets on Sunday, and are now on the outside of the playoff picture. They’ll need to beat the Ravens to get in, which they might get a gift if Baltimore rests starters.
14. Rams 8-7
The Rams were eliminated from playoff contention Saturday night as they fell to San Francisco. They were up 21-10 at one point, but couldn’t hang onto their lead.
15. Bucs 7-8
Tampa Bay could probably win the NFC South if Jameis Winston didn’t turn the football over three times a game. On Saturday, Tampa Bay had five turnovers in their 23-20 loss to Houston. However, Winston might be the most electric quarterback in the NFL because no one knows what he’s going to do when he drops back.
16. Cowboys 7-8
Dallas couldn’t hang onto the division lead against Philadelphia on Sunday. They’ll need help from the Giants next week if they want to get in. What a horrible season it’s been for the Cowboys.
17. Bears 7-8
The Bears looked horrible on Sunday night. Every comparison between Mahomes and Trubisky was shown, and the level of incompetence the Bears have had this season was on display.
18. Colts 7-8
Indianapolis dominated the Panthers in a meaningless game for both teams. They’ll have a chance to get to .500 next week with another win.
19. Raiders 7-8
Oakland needed five things to happen on Sunday to keep their playoffs hopes alive, and all five happened. They now need five more things to happen next Sunday to get into the playoffs.
20. Browns 6-9
The Browns were eliminated from playoff contention on Sunday against the Ravens. They need a miracle to get into the playoffs anyways, but it is now a done deal that they will not play in January for another season. What a dumpster fire this season has been in Cleveland.
21. Falcons 6-9
Atlanta won their Super Bowl in San Francisco, and then came back and beat Jacksonville at home. The up and down season out of the Falcons has been incredible.
22. Broncos 6-9
The Broncos secured a victory over Detroit at home on Sunday. This team has been competitive all season, and are another team that is a quarterback away from being good.
23. Jets 6-9
The Jets have had a decent season all things considered. Injuries have absolutely destroyed any chances of making the playoffs this season, but they have a solid core to build around.
24. Chargers 5-10
This has been a terrible season for Chargers fans. They now sit at 5-10 on the season, but at least they’ll get a top-10 pick in 2020. Maybe use it on a quarterback.
25. Panthers 5-10
Carolina has lost seven games in a row, and have been on a complete free fall over the last two months. They lost Cam Newton earlier this season, and couldn’t rebound which led to Chico getting fired. Onto 2020.
26. Cardinals 5-9-1
Arizona pulled off the upset over Seattle on Sunday. Kyler Murray went down halfway through the game, but they finished it off strong. There is hope out in Arizona.
27. Jaguars 5-10
Jacksonville lost again this week to fall to 5-10. Tom Coughlin was fired this week, which makes sense since he decided to take Leonard Fournette instead of Deshaun Watson or Patrick Mahomes.
28. Dolphins 4-11
Miami almost had a meltdown on Sunday as they allowed Cincinnati to tie it up as time expired in regulation. For a year of open tanking, four wins is pretty impressive.
29. Giants 4-11
The Giants had an exciting win over Washington in overtime on Sunday. Daniel Jones came back and got the victory for them.
30. Lions 3-11-1
Detroit has been a mess since Stafford went down. Maybe a few draft picks can help turn the ship around.
31. Redskins 3-12
Washington lost on Sunday, but they did secure a top-3 pick for the 2020 draft. The Redskins need to help build around Dwayne Haskins.
32. Bengals 1-14
Cincinnati is has secure the number one pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. The Bengals are now on the clock.
