Football is a game of inches, while fantasy football is a game of fractions of a point. Your kicker may at times feel like an afterthought, but they can very well be the difference you need in your weekly matchup. Predicting a kicker’s opportunity during a game will always be challenging and at times unpredictable. However, by evaluating the kicker’s matchup, accuracy, and caliber of offense he plays for, are all factors that will make your decision at the position that much easier. Here are my top 10 kicker waiver wire pickups.
Robbie Gould, San Francisco 49ers (Own 33%)
San Francisco’s veteran kicker has been good as he always has been in his career. Gould is 6 for 8 on field goals as well as perfect on extra points. While Gould’s offense will have to face a Myles Garrett led Browns’ defense, the Niners are talented enough to still move the ball. San Francisco is currently 3rd best in points scored on the season. Additionally, the team is coming off a bye, so they should even be more prepared for this matchup. If Gould is available, I’d look to pick him up.
Dan Bailey, Minnesota Vikings (Own 12%)
The Minnesota’s offense is quite abysmal. Their lack of passing ability is worrisome for the likes of Bailey’s opportunity, however they should have a better result this weekend against the G-Men. New York is ranked 21st worst in points allowed as well as 25th worst in passing yards allowed per game. If there is a matchup for Cousins’ and the offense to come to life, it will be this Sunday against the Giants. Bailey should have his opportunities this weekend, I’d take a flyer on him.
Austin Siebert, Cleveland Browns (Own 5%)
The Browns offense finally showed some of their potential last weekend. Cleveland hung a whopping 40 points on the Baltimore Ravens. Mayfield and the offenses’ high production led to a 10 point performance by Austin Siebert. The Cleveland kicker is perfect on field goals and has hit on 88% of his extra points. The Niners are a good defensive team, ranking 8th best in points allowed per game. However, Cleveland’s offense has too much firepower to think they won’t be able give Siebert some kicking opportunities. Only being owned by 5% of all leagues, Siebert is one of the more under the radar kicking pickups
Randy Bullock, Cincinnati Bengals (Own 1%)
The Bengals are coming off an atrocious performance against AFC North rival the Pittsburgh Steelers. Lucky for them and Randy Bullock, they get a prime matchup against the Arizona Cardinals. The Cards’ are ranked 29th in points allowed per game, and haven’t held a team under 23 points yet this season. Dalton and the rest of the offense should be rolling this weekend which should yield their kicker immense scoring opportunities.. Bullock is a very viable option against the Cardinals.
Eddy Pineiro, Chicago Bears (Own 3%)
While there are a lot of question marks surrounding the Bears’ offense, their kicker Eddy Pineiro is not one. Pineiro is 8 for 9 on field goals and perfect on extra points. Notably, he has a 53 yard field goal on the season. While the Bears will be out starting quarterback Mitchell Trubisky, that’s not to say veteran Chase Daniels can’t fill in admirably. To help Daniels’ cause, he faces a Raiders team who is 26th in passing yards allowed per game. Pineiro should continue to be a weapon for Chicago, I’d be confident in picking him up this weekend.
Matt Bryant, Atlanta Falcons (Own 30%)
The Falcons’ offense is quite a conundrum. They have all the talent necessary to be great, but have failed miserably so far this season. Atlanta could only manufacturer just 10 points last week against the Titans, dropping their record to 1-3. The Texans are pretty good in points allowed, giving up just the 10th least amount of points. However, they have given up the 23rd most pass yards. I have to imagine Matt Ryan and the rest of the offense will be able to find a spark against Houston. Matt Bryant is an enticing pickup win week 5.
Jake Elliott, Philadelphia Eagles (Own 48%)
The Eagles have a cakewalk of a matchup against the Jets. New York is playing with their 3rd string quarterback while they await the return of starting quarterback Sam Darnold. The Eagles’ should control the time of possession, and have no issues moving the ball against the Jets. New York is ranked 18th in points allowed per game. Elliott is kicking 100% on the season so far, and he should see more opportunity this Sunday. I’d look to pickup Elliott if he is still available.
Aldrick Rosas, New York Giants (Own 13%)
The Giants are flying high ever since starting quarterback Daniel Jones. They have ripped off 2 consecutive wins, and their offense looks to be formidable. The G-Men get a stiff test against Minnesota, who will certainly make it challenging for Jones’ success to continue. While touchdowns may be hard to come by, Rosas should still have opportunities to put up points.
Cairo Santos, Tennessee Titans (Own 2%)
Tennessee’s offense was clicking against Atlanta last weekend. They will need to continue that rhythm against Buffalo, who just held Tom Brady and the Patriots to just 16 points. The Titans are quite an unpredictable team, so it’s hard to determine what Santos’ scoring potential is this week. The uncertainty around the offense has him this low on the list, I’m sure there are better waiver wire options than Santos this weekend.
Zane Gonzalez, Arizona Cardinals (28%)
Kyler Murray and the Arizona offense have a favorable matchup against the Bengals in week 5. Cincinnati ranks 28th worst in points allowed per game. This game may turn into a shootout as both defenses are severely below average, and both offenses are capable of producing points. Gonzalez’ has been busy so far this season, making 10 of his 12 field goals on the year. Gonzalez is an exciting pickup this week, he should be considered after the names mentioned above.
