Another great week of college basketball is in the books. Only four undefeated teams remain this season, and Big Ten teams remain undefeated at home in conference play. Here are this weeks college basketball power rankings.
1. Kansas 9-1
Kansas remains the number one team in the nation as they took care of business against UMKC this weekend. They’ll be tested with Villanova this Saturday, and Stanford the following week before entering conference play.
2. Kentucky 8-1
Kentucky finishes off their non-conference schedule with Utah, Ohio State, and Louisville. The Wildcats have impressed so far this season, but haven’t really been tested since Michigan State in their first game of the season.
3. Louisville 10-1
Louisville bounced back from their loss to Texas Tech last week with a win over Eastern Kentucky. They have Miami Ohio on schedule before they face instate rival Kentucky on December 28.
4. Gonzaga 11-1
Gonzaga came up with an impressive road win over Arizona this weekend. They’re now 3-1 against Kenpom top-50 teams, and can add one more when they face North Carolina on Wednesday.
5. Ohio State 10-1
Ohio State suffered their first loss on Sunday to Minnesota. This helped continue a crazy streak that is going on in the Big Te right now. Big Ten teams are 13-0 at home when facing other Big Ten teams.
6. Virginia 8-1
The Cavilers had the week off, and will get back to action on Wednesday against Stony Brook. They have three more non-conference games in 2019 before ACC play gets going.
7. Duke 9-1
Duke is another team that has had the week off for finals. They have Wofford and Brown to close out their non-conference schedule, and will open up with Boston College in ACC play on December 31.
8. Auburn 9-0
Auburn is one of four remaining teams undefeated. The Tigers held off Saint Louis over the weekend and will be tested against NC State on Thursday. Can they be the final undefeated team remaining.
9. Maryland 10-1
Maryland has yet to seek revenge after their loss to Penn State last Tuesday. They get Seton Hall on Thursday, which will be a solid test for them in a bounce back spot.
10. Oregon 8-2
This Oregon team is looking like one of the best teams in the country. They went to Michigan this Saturday for an 11 am local time game, and beat the Wolverines in overtime. The Ducks are really something and have one of the best players in the country in Payton Pritchard.
11. Baylor 8-1
Another team that has been off for the last week, Baylor, will get back to action against Tennessee Martin on Wednesday. They have two more non-conference games before getting into Big 12 play after the New Year.
12. Michigan State 7-3
The Spartans had a nice win over Oakland (Michigan) this weekend. They have Northwestern this week before playing Eastern and Western Michigan leading into conference play.
13. Memphis 9-1
Memphis didn’t need James Wiseman in their road win over Tennessee. They still have three more non-conference games, and one of those will be against Georgia.
14. Dayton 9-1
The Flyers keeping flying this season. They have had back to back impressive wins against Drake and North Texas this week. They’ll be tested against Colorado on Saturday.
15. Michigan 8-3
The Wolverines have struggled over the last two weeks. After starting 7-0 and winning the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament, they have now lost three out of their last four games. Illinois and Oregon beat them in their last two, which knocked them back down this weeks power rankings.
16. Butler 10-1
Butler got their 10th win of the season over the weekend. They have this week off to prepare fo in-state rival Purdue on Saturday, and will finish off non-conference play against Louisiana-Monroe the following week.
17. Florida State 9-2
Florida State took care of North Florida on Tuesday and finish off non-conference play with South Florida and North Alabama. They have bounced back nicely from their loss to Indiana a few weeks ago.
18. Arizona 10-2
Arizona couldn’t pull off the comeback over Gonzaga at home last Saturday. Their losses are to Baylor and Gonzaga, which aren’t the worst for their resume.
19. Villanova 8-2
The Wildcats have a nice four game winning streak on their hands. However, they have a tough road matchup against Kansas this weekend. This will be their non-conference before opening up Big East play with Xavier.
20. San Diego State 10-0
The Aztecs have had the week off for finals. They get back at on Wednesday against San Diego Christian, and have Utah and Cal Poly before the get into conference.
21. Arkansas 9-1
Arkansas rebounded over the weekend against Tulsa after they suffered their first loss of the season the weekend prior. They finish off non-conference play against Valparaiso and Indiana before getting Texas A&M in their conference opener.
22. Texas Tech 7-3
After a three game skid a few weeks ago, the Red Raiders have bounced back and find themselves back in the power rankings. Their win over then top ranked Louisville helped, and took care of Southern Miss at home over the weekend.
23. Penn State 9-2
This has been a longtime coming but Penn State finds their way into the power rankings. They’re also ranked in the AP Top 25 for the first time in 24 years. What a time to be a Nittany Lion basketball fan.
24. Tennessee 9-2
Tennessee fell to Memphis over the weekend 51-47. They still have three more non-conference games with Wisconsin and Cincinnati part of that slate, so they’ll be tested again.
25. North Carolina 6-4
North Carolina has been in complete free fall after losing four of their last five games. On top of that, they will be without Cole Anthony for 4-6 weeks due to injury. UNC will be locked into the NIT this year.
