Conference play is underway across the college basketball landscape. The top four teams remain unchanged this week, but there was some shakeup down the board as some top teams fall. Here are this weeks college basketball power rankings.
1. Gonzaga 16-1
Gonzaga remains at number one in this weeks Lineups college basketball power rankings. The Zags sit at 2-0 in conference, and there doesn’t seem to be anyone in sight that will slow this team down. Maybe a conference opponent will catch them napping one night.
2. Duke 13-1
Duke is now 3-0 in ACC play after their win in Miami over the weekend. Vernon Carey is looking like the best player in college basketball, and has the Blue Devils playing some of the best basketball in the country.
3. Kansas 11-2
Kansas survived a scare over the weekend at home to West Virginia. After being down 24-30 at halftime, the Jayhawks came roaring back to beat the Mountaineers 60-53. Great defense by Bill Self’s squad was a huge part in the comeback.
4. Baylor 12-1
Baylor continue to find ways to win. They are now on an 11-game winning streak and are 2-0 in Big 12 play after their win at Texas Tech. Scott Drew’s squad will be tested on Saturday when they travel to Lawrence, Kansas.
5. Auburn 13-0
Auburn is still undefeated after their win over Mississippi State this weekend. The Tigers are 1-0 in the SEC, and will be challenged Wednesday against Vanderbilt. The question becomes how long can the Tigers keep this up?
6. Butler 14-1
Butler has had such an impressive start to the season, and they now find themselves ranked sixth in the power rankings. They are 2-0 early in Big East play, and showed how dominant their defense is in their win over Creighton.
7. San Diego State 15-0
San Diego State shoots up the ranks as they sit at 15-0 this season, and one of the last remaining unbeaten teams. They had an impressive 77-68 win over Utah State last weekend even without a few key players.
8. Florida State 13-2
Florida State was another team over the weekend with an impressive win. They dominated Louisville on the Cardinals home court. The Seminoles athleticism at guard was a huge factor in their win.
9. Michigan State 12-3
After some early season slip ups, Tom Izzo has the Spartans at 12-3 and 4-0 in the Big Ten. Michigan State had impressive back to back wins over Illinois and Michigan. This is starting to look like the Michigan State squad that was ranked number one this season.
10. Oregon 12-3
Oregon went 1-1 last week against Pac-12 opponents. Both games were on the road in Colorado and Utah, and couldn’t finish things off against the Buffaloes. They’ll have a big matchup Thursday when Arizona comes to town.
11. Louisville 12-3
After losing three of their last five, Louisville got a win over Miami on Tuesday. The Cardinals are 3-1 in the ACC, and despite their loss to Florida State. If Louisville’s guards can complement Jordan Nwora and Steven Enoch, this team is very scary.
12. Maryland 13-2
Maryland found a huge home win over Ohio State on Tuesday. They’ve won three in a row and are 3-1 in the Big Ten. Their two losses came on the road, which might say something playing away from College Park.
13. Dayton 13-2
Dayton took care of business against their first two Atlantic 10 opponents last week. La Salle and Saint Joseph’s didn’t stand a chance against a Flyers team that has been dominant all season.
14. West Virginia 12-2
West Virginia blew a huge game against Kansas on the road this past weekend. The Mountaineers still sit at 12-2 on the season, but this team could’ve had a ton of confidence if they would’ve upset the Jayhawks.
15. Memphis 12-2
Memphis fell to Georgia at home over the weekend. This might be the downfall of the Tigers without James Wiseman in the mix. Precious Achiuwa played great for them, but just couldn’t get it done.
16. Kentucky 11-3
Kentucky took care of business in their first two SEC games against Mizzou and Georgia over the past week. The Wildcats are starting to look like themselves again after the few losses they suffered earlier this season.
17. Ohio State 11-4
Ohio State is in free fall right now as they have lost four out of their last six, and their last three games. Things aren’t going well for the Buckeyes, but they should be able to get back on track against Indiana.
18. Villanova 11-3
Villanova had no answer for Marquette’s Markus Howard over the weekend. The Wildcats did rebound with a win over Creighton, but Jay Wright does have some things he needs his team to work on.
19. Arkansas 12-1
Arkansas continues to get things done this season. They will be tested Wednesday when they face LSU in a tough road matchup. However, Eric Musselman has this team playing incredible basketball.
20. Arizona 11-3
Arizona finally got back in the win column this week with a win over in-state rival Arizona State. Thursday they will be tested again when they travel to Oregon to take on the Ducks. This will most likely be a matchup of the Pac-12 Championship game.
21. Virginia 11-3
Virginia had an ugly loss to Boston College on Tuesday. So far, their best win has come against North Carolina, and have struggled against multiple inferior opponents. This could be a long ACC season for the Cavilers.
22. Michigan 10-4
Remember when Michigan was on top of the world after winning the Battle 4 Atlantis tournament? Well, things are starting to change for the Wolverines, and have now lost four of their last seven. They are now 1-2 in the Big Ten.
23. Penn State 12-3
Penn State has been such a fun story so far. Despite losing to a very good Rutgers team on Tuesday, they could still be a sleeper in the Big Ten with how they have played so far.
24. Texas Tech 10-4
Texas Tech couldn’t get the job done at home against Baylor on Tuesday. Chris Beard is playing a lot of freshman and sophomores this season, but they still can compete amongst the best in the Big 12.
25. Wichita State 13-1
Greg Marshall has the Shockers back in the top 25 at Wichita State. They sit at 13-1 going into AAC play, and should be a legit contender to win the conference. This team is good and ready to make another cinderella run in the tournament.
