Contents
More midweek MACtion is here, when Western Michigan visits Bowling Green to help get Week 10 started in College Football. This should be an interesting matchup for the pecking order in the MAC, even though these two teams have been average. Let’s take a look at the odds and make some picks and predictions for this game!
Western Michigan vs. Bowling Green Odds
Bowling Green is a 4-point home favorite against Western Michigan and is also at -200 on the money line. The over/under is also at 47. Bowling Green has had an up and down year this year, and the spread reflects that. They are only favored by this much mainly due to the game being played in Bowling Green. The over/under seems about right too because both teams only average points in the 20’s. I wouldn’t expect the spread to move much here because both teams are very evenly matched.
Western Michigan vs. Bowling Green Prediction & Pick
The Pick: Bowling Green -4
Bowling Green has had a roller coaster of a season so far this year. However, they’ve been in a lot of entertaining games this year, whether those games have gone in their favor or not. The difference here will most likely be Bowling Green’s offense. They are averaging 26 points and 340 total yards a game up to this point in the season. Those numbers are not great, but they’ve been enough to get the job done a few times this year. The difference will be the offenses because Western Michigan has not shown enough on offense to be consistent.
A potential x-factor could be how bad Bowling Green’s defense has been. Western Michigan is getting 306 total yards on offense while Bowling Green is giving up 431 total yards, so that could be an issue, but still the Broncos have shown no consistency on offense to like them in this spot. The highs of Bowling Green are enough to like them more even with the lows being pretty low too. This could overall end up being a very entertaining game because these teams seem very evenly matched on paper and also neither of them do anything really well. The thing to trust the most here is Bowling Green’s offense, which is why they’re the pick here.
Western Michigan vs. Bowling Green Key Matchups
Can Western Michigan slow down Matt McDonald? Will Bowling Green be able to contain Sean Tyler on the ground?
Matt McDonald vs the Western Michigan Secondary
Matt McDonald has been the key for Bowling Green on offense this year. He has 1,620 passing yards, 16 passing touchdowns, three interceptions, and a 58% completion percentage on the year. His best game against an FBS opponent was against Marshall where he threw for 282 yards, four passing touchdowns, and a 60% completion percentage. Western Michigan is not great against the pass, giving up 240 yards through the air, so the Falcons could have a field day here. If McDonald is able to take advantage here, it’ll be a long day for the Broncos.
Sean Tyler vs the Bowling Green Front Seven
Sean Tyler is the key for Western Michigan’s offense this year. He has 121 carries, 529 rushing yards, and four rushing touchdowns on the year. His best game was last week when he had 110 rushing yards and one rushing touchdown off 22 carries. He’s just been a workhorse for Western Michigan even though the offense has struggled overall this year. Tyler has a chance to have a big day here because the Bowling Green rushing defense has not been great. The Falcons are giving up 161 rushing yards a game, which is good for Tyler. Tyler is the key, so if Bowling Green can bottle him up at all, then this game could get out of hand in Bowling Green’s favor because they don’t have much else on offense.
