Will Fuller Fantasy Football Outlook & Value 2019

We have only seen short spurts of Will Fuller in the NFL, as he heads into his fourth year. The Houston Texans have had some tough luck with injuries, and Fuller has been no exception. Fuller is returning from an ACL tear, and has had several fractures over his short NFL career. Staying healthy is the only concern with Fuller, and of course how he comes off that ACL tear. Fuller’s upside is certainly worth a some shots in drafts, but there is risk that comes with it.

It was a shortened season for Fuller, as he played just seven games. In those seven games he had 503 yards and four touchdowns. Three of those seven games he went for over 100 yards. We have yet to truly see a full 16 game season out of Fuller, where his rookie year wasn’t with Watson, nor was he heavily involved in the offense. Over the last two seasons, Fuller has 11 touchdowns and 926 yards over 17 games started. Fuller is also a key part of Watson’s success for fantasy as there is quite the correlation. One of the underrated parts of Fuller’s shortened 2018 season was the fact he had a 71% catch rate. He had not surpassed 60% in the first two seasons. Fuller also had some strong separation numbers (3.3) according to Next Gen Stats.

Rich Hribar did a deep dive into ACL injuries returned, which is not ideal for those high on Fuller, which many are. A lot of the outlook is going to be chalking him to stay healthy. When healthy, Fuller has caught 45 passes for 782 yards and 11 touchdowns with Deshaun Watson at quarterback. In those games he has averaged 17.4 yards per catch. Tremendous numbers for the former Irish standout, but we need to see it over a full season.

We also do need to talk about Keke Coutee being a viable option in this offense and giving Watson a third name to throw to. If a tight end emerges, we could see a spread out offense that still gives the main focus to DeAndre Hopkins. That would create lower floor for Fuller on a week-to-week basis making him big play dependent.

Draft & Auction Value

Because we have seen the ceiling flashed on Will Fuller, the general public has driven up his ADP into an uncomfortable level. This is far from a sure thing with health and targets baked into it. Fuller certainly has the WR2 type upside, but could end up being a nervy pick on a week-to-week basis. His ADP and auction value is a bit high in comparison to other names around him. I might look for a more solid floor depending on the roster build of my teams. As long as you know the risk, there will be no gripe about taking a flyer on Fuller.
