2021 MLB All Star Game Betting Insight

We are at the halfway point of the MLB season and coming off another epic Home Run Derby. Pete Alonso took care of business in Coors, bringing home a second consecutive Derby championship. The MLB now turns to the All-Star game, where Shohei Ohtani is starting against Max Scherzer. However, Ohtani is also hitting leadoff. With the game being in Coors, the high altitude and ball-carrying atmosphere will meet top pitchers. The total is sitting around 11 on most sportsbooks, with the National League as slight favorites.

Money On The National League

On DraftKings Sportsbook, 57% of the handle is on the National League to cover the -1.5 run line. Given the casual event attracting all ranges of bettors, the over is at 60%,  and 52% of the moneyline handle is on the National League.

Heading on over to BetMGM, 61% of the handle is on the National League moneyline, yet 70% on the American League run line. 58% of the handle is on the over here as well, which matches DraftKings at 11.

BetMGM has a few notable prop bets with the American League winning with both teams scoring six or more runs for +725. There is also one for the National League winning and an over of 7.5 runs for +145.

The American League team brings a lot of power to the table with six starters hitting over 20 home runs so far this season. Ohtani is leading off and pitching, while Vladimir Guerrero Jr brings his big bat hitting second. The AL East is heavily represented as starters, with seven players represented.

Fernando Tatis Jr. leads off for the National League, with Max Muncy, Nolan Arenado, and Freddie Freeman rounding out the top four hitters. The team took a hit this week with Ronald Acuna out for the next year, but Jesse Winker, Bryan Reynolds, and Nicholas Castellanos bring an all NL Central outfield to the table.

The National League has lost the last five games. Only one game went over 11 runs, which was in 2018 in Washington.
