Thursday Night Football Anytime Touchdown Picks

Jets TE Tyler Conklin

In two games on the Jets, Davante Adams has tallied seven receptions for 84 yards and, more importantly, zero touchdowns. The task of reaching pay dirt doesn’t get easier tonight, as stud cornerback Derek Stingley has only allowed one touchdown to his assignments through eight games. Thus, it’s better to look further down the odds board. Enter Tyler Conklin.

Conklin has reeled in seven of his last eight targets for two touchdowns in the previous two weeks, solidifying himself as a top red zone option for Aaron Rodgers. With Allen Lazard (five TDs) dealing with a chest injury, riding the red zone wave with Conklin makes sense.

The Texans’ defense has been stout against TEs, surrendering only 21 yards (first) per game to the position. However, in recent weeks, they have sprung a leak against teams with high tight-end usage. Hunter Henry (18% target share) reeled in his first TD in Week 6, and Tucker Kraft (17% target share) reached pay dirt in Week 7. Although Conklin’s target share is lower (13%), I’m expecting a big game without Lazard out there.

Texans WR John Metchie III

With injuries to Stefon Diggs and Nico Collins, John Metchie is the next man up at the WR position. The former Alabama product has a quick twitch and is a smooth route runner, which makes his upside intriguing.

Last week, when he stepped in, he caught three of his four targets for 29 yards. Two of his targets were red zone ones, tying him with tight end Dalton Schultz on the season. Rather than taking Schultz to cross the goal line, let’s roll with Metchie at higher odds, given Stroud trusted him immediately inside the 20 last week. It’s worth noting that Schultz hasn’t tallied a red zone target since Week 4. If Stroud couldn’t be bothered to toss Schultz a bone on National Tight Ends Day last week, I certainly think it’s worth taking a shot on receivers with longer odds.

What Are NFL Anytime Touchdown Picks?

If you are new to these wagers, they’re bets on a player to score a touchdown. Keep in mind that quarterbacks must run or receive a touchdown pass to cash their prop — passing touchdowns do NOT apply to anytime touchdown bets at NFL betting sites.

As a result, the primary focus will lie with offensive skill players, although you’ll find juicy prices for defensive and special teams players to score as well. Some NFL betting apps may lump “special teams/defense” together.
