The Detroit Lions released a press statement announcing their new partnership with BetMGM. The sports betting operator is locked into a multi-year deal with the NFL team and the club’s first sports betting partner.
“The Detroit Lions historic relationship with BetMGM has been years in the making, and we’re proud to announce details of our official partnership,” said Rod Wood, Detroit Lions Team President. “We’re continuously seeking new ways to entertain and involve our fans, which is especially important during such unusual times; this partnership with BetMGM will provide additional and exciting opportunities to engage our fans.”
This is now the second partnership of its kind in Detroit after the Tigers partnered with PointsBet earlier this summer.
The Lions are the second team to partner with a sports betting operator after the Denver Broncos went on a sports betting partnership frenzy this spring and summer. With sports betting becoming a growing U.S. industry, and the most popular sport to bet on, more sportsbooks will try to partner with NFL teams.
Partnership Details
The Lions and BetMGM partnership will have a fan-focused approach, according to the press release. BetMGM will be the sponsor of Lions Bingo and Lions Perks. They will also have signage through the Detroit stadium and in-game promotions – along with programming and digital marketing advertisement.
The new Lions partnership is an extension of MGM Resorts and will also have features for fans at the MGM Grand Detroit Tunnel Club at Ford Field. Look for BetMGM to have special bonuses and offers for Lions fans during the regular season.
Michigan legalized sports betting in 2019, and BetMGM has been working on a plan to get into the Michigan market. Partnering with the Detroit Lions is a step in the right direction and will be able to get Lions fans’ to sign-up on its mobile platform when they launch.
Lions Bingo and Lions Perks
The biggest part about the partnerships is that BetMGM will become the sponsor of Lions Bingo and Lions Perks.
Lions Bingo
Lions Bingo launched in 2019 and is a predictive app for fans to guess what plays are coming next. The app also lets you predict players’ stats for various games throughout the season. Before the partnership, fans were eligible for non-cash prizes. Now, under the partnership, fans can win cash prizes courtesy of BetMGM, along with winning a trip to any BetMGM resort in the country.
Lions Perks
As for Lions Perks, it was introduced in 2018 and open during Lions home games through the team’s mobile app. What BetMGM and MGM Resorts is doing is giving special perks and offers to Lions fans. Some of those benefits will include helping Detroit Lions charities.
If you are a Lions fan and have Lions Perks, use the feature for all purchases at For Field the day of the game. BetMGM will put you into their sweepstakes for different gameday prizes. Also, Detroit Lions’ season ticket holders are available for Super Bowl and Pro Bowl tickets through the Lions Perks app when you scan your card at the stadium, thanks to BetMGM.
NFL Partnerships Moving Forward
The Lions are now the second NFL team with a sports betting partner along with the Denver Broncos. It was not long ago that the NFL did now allow teams to have partnerships with sports betting operators. Oh, how the times have changed.
As the year goes on, there is a good chance that sportsbooks will look to partner with NFL teams as a sort of cash cow. Sports betting is legal in 18 states, along with D.C. Of the areas that have legal sports betting, 11 NFL teams reside there.
This is a big opportunity for both sportsbooks and the NFL to create partnerships in an area that is going to explode in growth as legalization becomes more prominent.
