BetMGM is on its way to a sports betting launch in South Dakota as its partnering with Liv Hospitality’s Thin Lizzie Gaming Resort and Cadillac Jack’s Gaming Resort. Adam Greenblatt, BetMGM’s CEO, said “Liv Hospitality’s prime resort locations in Deadwood make it an ideal partner for us. Together, we look forward to bringing the BetMGM sports betting experience to South Dakota sports fans.”
South Dakota Betting History
In 1989, South Dakota first legalized gambling in Deadwood to make it a significant tourist location – it launched with 25 casinos featuring roulette, keno, craps, limited card games, and slot machines. On November 3, 2020, the Deadwood Sports Betting Legalization Amendment added sports betting to that list and the South Dakota Commission on Gaming approved a set of regulations on July 14. Deadwood currently has ten full casinos inside city limits.
A legislative committee approved the sports betting rules on August 2. South Dakota will launch sports betting with a tax rate of 9%. Providers will need to pay a $5,00 application fee, a $2,000 license fee for a full fiscal year, and a $2,000 renewal fee. BetMGM is among the several providers who should be interested in launching sports betting offerings in the state.
