Los Angeles Rams vs Miami Dolphins

The Los Angeles Rams (5-2) will head across the country to take on the Miami Dolphins (3-3) this Sunday. The Rams enter this game coming off of a win against the Chicago Bears last week 24-10. The Dolphins are coming off of a bye week. In their last game, they took down the New York Jets 24-0, their second-straight win.

Miami made a surprise announcement last week naming Tua Tagovailoa their new starting quarterback despite the solid season that Ryan Fitzpatrick has put together. So far this season, the Miami offense is 25th in total offense, 17th in passing offense, and 22nd in rushing offense. Despite those mediocre numbers, the Dolphins are 12th in points scored per game (26.7).

Los Angeles has one of the top defensive units in the league. They are allowing the sixth-fewest yards per game, fifth-fewest passing yards per game, and seventh-fewest rushing yards per game. They have allowed the second-fewest points per game this season (17.7).

Offensively, the Rams have been explosive at times and stagnant other times. They own the league’s seventh-best rush offense. They are 12th in total yards per game and 10th in third-down conversion.

Miami’s defense has been below average this season in terms of yardage. They rank 19th in total yards allowed per game, including 16th against the pass and 18th against the rush. Still, the Dolphins somehow have allowed the third-fewest points per game (18.8) and they are the best team in the league at getting off of the field on third down (31.3%).

Against one of the league’s best defenses, it is hard to imagine Tagovailoa having a very good game. The Dolphins defensive numbers may be inflated due to meetings with the Jets, Jaguars, and at the time, a very injured 49ers team. Against the two best offenses they played (Buffalo and Seattle), they allowed 31 points each. The Rams offense isn’t as good as those two but they can be in spurts.

Don’t over-hype the debut of Tagovailoa. The Rams are a good all-around team that has two one-possession losses to two very good opponents in Buffalo and San Francisco. The Rams defense should contain Tua well and their offense should have a big game against a Dolphins’ defense that isn’t very good. Look for L.A. to get a comfortable win and cover.
