Heat vs Celtics SGP Best Bets
With their backs against the wall, the Celtics responded by rattling off two dominant wins in a row and now hit the road for game six. Shot variance finally tilted back in their favor, limiting the Heat’s transition opportunities and forcing them to beat them in a halfcourt set. In what will be a hostile environment, the Celtics defense will need to continue to lock in and limit the Heat’s momentum from the tip.
The Celtics starters took center stage in game five, building a massive lead early in the contest and coasted to an easy victory. While on the road, I expect more of the same from the Celtics stars as they look to force a game seven.
SGP Leg 1: Boston Celtics Moneyline
No team has ever come back down 0-3 in a playoff series, but the Celtics may be the team to make history as they look like their championship favorite selves. This is in large part of shot variance, mimicking the same offensive identity as the Heat but unable to hit the broad side of the barn in games one through three.
Now that the Celtics are converting at their average rate, this slows down Miami’s offense as they are forced to beat them in the halfcourt. This is a cause for concern for Miami as they are unable to take advantage of a scrambled Celtics defense in transition and limit their chances of attacking the interior. When Butler is able to attack the middle, this forces the Celtics to collapse and in turn get burned from the perimeter by an open Heat shooter.
By negating that with their shot making, the Celtics are able to keep scoring pace with the Heat and are in prime position to stall out Miami’s offense by forcing them into low quality looks from deep.
Another beneficial factor of slowing down Miami’s offense is the uptick in havoc opportunities that the Celtics can create by applying pressure on the Heat’s ball handlers on the perimeter. Anticipating the passing lanes and doubling the corners, the Celtics can turn their defense into offense and generate fast break opportunities for high quality scoring chances at the rim.
SGP Leg 2: Jayson Tatum Double-Double Yes
While Jaylen Brown’s threes prop finally lost, the other staple of our SGP’s in Jayson Tatum’s double doubles cashed. I am once again adding his double-double prop it into my SGP as Tatum has been a monster on the glass in an effort to limit the Heat’s second chance scoring opportunities.
Playing as the power forward has allowed Tatum to creep down into the interior without sacrificing perimeter coverage. This has also given the slower Al Horford help on the opposite side as he has struggled to contain the far more athletic Bam Adebayo on the boards.
SGP Leg 3: Grant Williams o7.5 Points
After exploding on offense in game four, Grant Williams was held to just six points in game five on 1-4 shooting. While the shot attempts are a bit of concern, his minutes give me conviction that he will be in a good position to clear this as he finished game five with 26 minutes.
Like the other Celtics secondary scorers, Williams benefits from single coverage as the Heat throw doubles on Tatum at the perimeter. Should he be able to knock down a three early on, then we are in prime position to clear this as Williams excels at crashing the boards as well for second chance opportunities throughout the remainder of the contest.
SGP Leg 4: Marcus Smart u2.5 Threes
While we bid farewell to Jaylen Brown’s unders on his threes prop as he rounds back into form, we get the benefit of fading Marcus Smart after he finished game five shooting 4-6 from deep. This is a similar approach that I take with Jimmy Butler, fading his threes when it ticks up a full amount after an impressive shooting performance in the game before.
Smart lacks any sort of consistency that gives me caution of a repeat performance, serving as an afterthought in the scoring department as Brown shoulders more of a usage rate and Tatum continues to be the go-to option.
