Champions League Finals Set, Odds Favor Manchester City

For the second time in three years, it will be an all-English Champions League final. Manchester City is looking to wrap up a three-trophy season already locking up the Premier League, winning the League Cup, and now looking to win the Champions League. After much domestic success, Manchester City has had some disappointing exits over recent years. City is a vastly superior team to Chelsea at the moment, but over one match anything can happen. Chelsea last won the Champions League back in 2012 and are somewhat of a surprise to make it this far, but a favorable draw helped them avoid other European Giants.

Manchester City Odds

  • BetMGM -115

The odds are pretty much all the same here, although at the moment DraftKings has the best odds to have Manchester City win without any extra time. Manchester City has been the far more ominant team this season as they bolstered their defensive line and continue to replenish their forwards. Having Kevin De Bruyne is also a massive advantage. The defense has been a big help, especially Ruben Dias. They have allowed just four goals in 12 games.

This team can attack from multiple areas of the pitch. They use a false nine system and Phil Foden has really turned into one of the best young players in Europe. Riyad Mahrez and Bernardo Silva continue to bring stability. Under Tuchel, Chelsea has been tough to break down and they will counter with their front three. However, City’s passing ability is far and above most teams and they will be able to break down Chelsea’s defense. It will come down to not spoiling the chances they do have.

Pep Guardiola is one of the most decorated managers in football history but it has been nearly ten years since he has won a Champions League. He would become the sixth manager to win it with two different clubs.

Chelsea Odds

  • DraftKings +300
  • FanDuel +310
  • BetMGM +300

Chelsea comes in losing just one Champions League match so far this season and have beaten teams like real Madrid, Porto and Atletico Madrid. They won their group and have been doing very well under Thomas Tuchel. Chelsea has had a long history of winning silverware with brand new managers and could again here. I would expect Chelsea to allow City to have a bulk of the chances and try and do what they have been doing so well, which is locking up the backline and picking their spots to counter.

N’Golo Kantè has been tremendous during this campaign and has been a key part in slowing down opposing midfielders but also knowing when to make the runs and create for others. The new front three of Timo Werner, Christian Pulisic, and Kai Havertz have had an up and down season, where Werner has endured lengthy goal droughts and Pulisic has battled injury. They are clicking at the moment.

Odds are similar at each of the major sportsbooks for a Chelsea outright win. While they are long-shot odds, anything can happen in one match.
