Bet On The Favorite(s)?
Just like in the men’s college basketball tournament, the SEC has dominated the field, notching six of the top eight national seeds. While the Vanderbilt Commodores boast the No. 1 overall seed, they have the sixth-best odds (+1200) of winning the national championship. Instead, the No. 3 overall seed Arkansas Razorbacks (+475) are favored to win their first College World Series in program history.
Arkansas spent the last month of the regular season as the short favorite and remains in this position despite its one-and-done exit in the SEC tournament. The Razorbacks’ lineup is paced by shortstop Wehiwa Aloy, named the 2025 SEC Baseball Player of the Year, who has generated a .358 batting average, 18 home runs, and 58 RBI.
Although Arkansas may benefit from extra rest entering the tournament, ace Zach Root has scuffled in his last two outings. Most recently, the 21-year-old southpaw surrendered seven hits in four innings against Ole Miss, yielding five runs (one earned). The Razorbacks were also dealt an arduous path among College World Series odds.
“The market is too short on Arkansas given their likely matchup in a Super (Regional) and the first game in Omaha, assuming it gets there,” Jeff Davis, Circa Sports’ assistant sportsbook manager and one of the premier NHL, golf, and college baseball bookmakers, said. “Outside of the UCLA regional (in Los Angeles), that whole side of the bracket is unbelievably strong.”
Over the last three seasons, teams lined with the fifth-best odds or better have emerged victorious. Fellow No. 1 seed Tennessee (+850) will attempt to win consecutive CWS titles since South Carolina did so in 2010-11. However, the Volunteers’ price tag is likely inflated after winning last season.
For those interested in a longshot pick for College World Series odds, Florida State (+3000) showcases an elite pitching-hitting duo in Jamie Arnold and Alex Lodise. The Seminoles are on the tamer side of the bracket and were repositioned lower on the betting board after losing in the ACC semifinals, creating some potential value before the action begins on Friday, May 30.
