Cooper Kupp Super Bowl 56 MVP Odds

The Los Angeles Rams will take on the Cincinnati Bengals in Super Bowl LVI on Sunday, February 13, 2022, at SoFi Stadium.  The Rams, playing in their home stadium are a 4.5-point favorite with their money line at -200.  For historical perspective, here are the top receiving performance by a Rams receiver in each of their Super Bowl appearances.  The Rams were a 10-point underdog to the Steelers in Super Bowl XIV, losing 31-19.  In the loss Los Angeles wide receiver, Billy Waddy had three receptions for 75 yards.  In their next Super Bowl appearance (as the St. Louis Rams), they entered Super Bowl XXXIV as a seven-point favorite over the Tennessee Titans.  The Rams Torry Holt had seven catches for 109 yards and one touchdown, while Isaac Bruce had six catches for 162 yards and a touchdown as the Rams captured their first Super Bowl championship in franchise history, 23-16.  The franchise played in its third Super Bowl against the New England Patriots in Super Bowl XXXVI, losing 20-17.  Az-Zahir Hakim led the club in receiving with five catches for 90 yards in the loss.  In their fourth Super Bowl appearance, the Rams back in Los Angeles were a two-point underdog to the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LIII.  Brandon Cooks led the team in receiving with eight catches for 120 yards in the 13-3 loss.

Wide receivers have won the Super Bowl MVP seven times; tied for the second-most by position with running back.  Kupp has a tremendous opportunity to be the next one to win it as he’s the most dominant receiver in the NFL.  Let’s look at the last four receivers’ statistics who have won Super Bowl MVP.  New England’s Deion Branch won the award in Super Bowl XXXIX with 11 receptions and 133 receiving yards in the Patriots win over the Eagles.  Hines Ward of the Pittsburgh Steelers won the award the following season in Super Bowl XL, as Pittsburgh beat Seattle.  Ward had five catches for 123 yards and a touchdown.  In Super Bowl XLIII another Pittsburgh receiver won the award.  Santonio Holmes had nine catches for 131 yards and the game winning touchdown as the Steelers beat the Cardinals.  Finally, Julian Edelman won the MVP in Super Bowl LIII as the Patriots beat the Rams.  In the low-scoring game, Edelman had 10 receptions for 141 yards.

Cooper Kupp Super Bowl MVP Odds

Cooper Kupp is Los Angeles’ most dangerous pass catcher as he won the NFL receiving “triple crown,” with 145 receptions (second all-time to Michael Thomas who 149 catches in 2019), 1,947 yards (second all-time to Calvin Johnson who had 1,964 yards receiving in 2012) and 16 touchdowns this campaign.  He has 11 games with at least 100 receiving yards and one or more touchdown receptions this season; most in NFL history, including playoffs.  Kupp also has gone over the century mark in receiving yards, including playoffs, in 13 games this season, breaking Michael Irvin’s 25-year-old record.  The fifth-year receiver has caught 37 passes for 533 yards and five touchdowns during the Rams three playoff wins this year.  He has averaged 10 catches, 162.5 receiving yards and two touchdowns in his last two games: including 11 receptions for 142 yards and two touchdowns in the NFC Championship game against San Francisco.

Besides, Stafford, Kupp is the most important skill-position player on the Los Angeles offense, including the playoffs he has 170 catches for an incredible 2,333 receiving yards and 20 touchdowns this year.  How the Bengals cover Kupp will be interesting, do they dare use Eli Apple in man-to-man converge or do they use another cornerback such as Chidobe Awuzie to help double team Los Angeles’s star receiver?  If they do double team him, does Cincinnati open the field for the Rams other offensive weapons?  The Eastern Washington product can make a catch in any situation and is one of the best blocking receivers in the NFL, helping to set the edge for the Rams running game.  Kupp at +600 to win the Super Bowl MVP, is a wonderful pick for the value, I think that’s the safest bet if you want to go away from Stafford on the Rams side.
