Dallas Goedert’s current Super Bowl MVP odds are . When the Kansas City Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LVII, we will crown the well-deserved champion after a season long effort. Not only will we have a new Super Bowl champion, but we will have a Super Bowl MVP as well. It’s one of the most prestigious honors a player can achieve as it signifies who stepped up in the biggest game of the year. In what is a typical quarterback driven award, can a skill player take home the hardware?

Dallas Goedert Super Bowl MVP Odds

The tight end landscape of the NFL has been top heavy with stars like Travis Kelce, Mark Andrews, and George Kittle wreaking havoc against opposing defenses. One name that is just on the edge of joining that elite tier is the Eagles Dallas Goedert. He had a chance to etch his name into that group this season should he have remained fairly healthy. He only played in 12 games this season, while playing in both postseason games as well.

When he is healthy, he has carved out a role of being Jalen Hurts safety blanket. Especially for first down situations, potentially leading the team in first down receptions if he maintained his production over the course of a full season. Should he repeat the same, we will hear his name early and often which may sway voters to look towards his direction when making their decision for the MVP.

Goedert also benefits from a very friendly tight end matchup against the Chiefs as Kansas City ranks 31st in touchdowns allowed to skilled positions in the slot. That plays towards Goedert’s role, finding gaps across the middle of the defense. For tight ends specifically, the Chiefs have given up touchdowns to the big men at the seventh highest rate in the NFL.

How Dallas Goedert can win the award

If Goedert wants a serious claim at the award, then he will have to take advantage of the Chiefs inability to guard the tight end. He has an opportunity to make a claim as the most impactful tight end of the game, a game that features Travis Kelce on the other side. Outperforming Kelce alone will vault Goedert up the list of MVP candidates alone as Kelce is regarded as the one of the best tight ends of all time.

Touchdowns will be even more vital for the tight end as his yards after catch will be limited. This has been an area that has eluded him over the last five games, scoring only one touchdown. That one touchdown did come in a playoff game so it’s not as if Hurts isn’t looking his way as of late.

I would be hard pressed to see him out gain his fellow weapons in AJ Brown and Devonta Smith, both playing a downfield role as well as possessing an elite yards after catch ability. This puts more of an added emphasis on touchdowns, needing multiple scores to seal the fate of the award.

How Dallas Goedert cannot win the award

History is not on his side as a tight end has never won the Super Bowl MVP award in the history of the hardware. Their lack of yards after catch has hampered their chances, meaning all purposeful yards have mainly come from the arm of their quarterback.

This means that Goedert needs to capitalize on touchdowns near the red zone and that will be easier said than done. The Eagles have a plethora of ways to beat defenses near the end zone and have opted in for a rush heavy approach as of late. That was made apparent in the NFC Conference Championship.

With a lack of yards after the catch and touchdown looks near the end zone, Goedert’s chances seem bleak. Still, if he outperforms Travis Kelce then his name may be thrown into consideration on that alone.

Verdict

This is a piece I am seriously considering adding to my Super Bowl MVP portfolio. I tend to avoid quarterbacks, taking stabs at longer shots and Goedert fits that role as he gets a friendly tight end matchup.
