Detroit Lions vs. Los Angeles Rams Player Props (10/24/21)

This Sunday’s matchup at SoFi Stadium is a contest of two teams who are at different ends of the NFL standings. The NFC West 5-1 Los Angeles Rams face the NFC North winless Detroit Lions. The Rams are coming off a 38-11 thrashing of the Giants last week and the Lions come to Los Angeles licking their wounds following a 34-11 loss at home to the Bengals. The Rams offense is averaging 401 yards per game which ranks eighth in the NFL. The Lions are allowing an average of 26 points per game on

Matthew Stafford o288.5 Passing Yards

Quarterback Matthew Stafford will be facing the team he led for the previous 12 seasons after being drafted number one overall in the 2009 NFL Draft. In 165 career games with Detroit, the former Georgia Bulldog threw for 45,109 yards, 282 touchdowns and a 62.2 completion percentage, while also leading the Lions to the playoffs three times during his tenure in the Motor City.

In his first season with the Rams, Stafford has thrown for 1,838 and 16 touchdowns and looking like the player Sean McVay hoped who would make the offense more dynamic.
Although the split with the Lions was professional and he professed his love for club upon the trade to Los Angeles, Stafford will be highly motivated to dominate his former club. The Detroit defense is allowing 270.5 passing yards per game, while Stafford is averaging 306.3 passing yards per game, ranking him fourth in the NFL.

Three times this season, the Los Angeles signal caller has thrown for at least 288.5 yards; he threw for a season high 365 yards two weeks ago in the win at Seattle. At home, Stafford is averaging 314.6 passing yards in three games. Finally, the Los Angeles field general has exceeded his passing yards prop bet total four times in 2021.

I’ll predict that Stafford with throw for 305 yards, easily going with the over of 288.5 yards against the Lions.

Cooper Kupp o94.5 Receiving Yards

The Los Angeles Rams wide receiver, Cooper Kupp is one of the best route runners in the NFL. His 46 receptions are tied for the league lead to go along with 653 yards and seven touchdowns. Kupp is averaging 110.8 receiving yards per game in 2021; 14.3 more than his prop bet over/under for Sunday’s game of 94.5.

In 60 career NFL games the Eastern Washington product is averaging 70.38 receiving yards per game since coming into the league in 2017.

Leading the league in targets with 68, Kupp has totaled more than 94.5 receiving yards in four of the Rams six games this season. Detroit has allowed at least one opposing receiver to have at least 97 yards receiving in all six games this season; the 49ers Deebo Samuel had a season high 189 receiving yards against the Lions in week 1.

Despite averaging 89.3 receiving yards per game on the turf at SoFi Stadium, I see Kupp having 105 yards in the air comfortably going over 94.5 receiving yards against the Lions.

Jared Goff u1.5 Passing Touchdowns

Lions Quarterback Jared Goff will be playing the team that drafted him number one in the 2016 NFL Draft and led to an appearance in Super Bowl LIII. In five seasons with the Rams, Goff threw for 18,171 yards and 107 touchdowns. Under Sean McVay’s guidance Goff threw for career season-high 32 touchdown passes in 2018 and earned two Pro Bowl trips.

This season as a Lion, Goff has thrown for 1,505 yards, seven touchdowns with a 66.8 completion percentage. With 114 career touchdown passes, Goff has averaged 1.52 touchdown passes per game; this season he’s averaging 1.16 touchdown passes per game.

The Cal-Berkley product will be under pressure to perform well against his former team. After the loss to the Bengals this past weekend, Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell said in his press conference when asked about Goff, “I feel like he needs to step up more than he has. And I think he needs to help us just like everybody else.”

On the road, Detroit is scoring 16 points per game while the Rams have allowed only six touchdown passes in 2021. I would be stunned if the Lions score more than 10 points in the game against the Rams, thus going with the under of 1.5 touchdown passes by Jared Goff in his return to Los Angeles.
