Qualify
The only way to get a spot in the live final is to earn it. Each week during the NHL regular season, one lucky fantasy hockey player will win a ticket to the FHWC final. Qualify rounds will have different entry fees. Satellite qualifiers are anywhere from a quarter to $300.
The different entry fee amounts will have various cash prize structures. However, the single target for every lineup is to win one of the FHWC entries into the finals. You can amass up to three entry tickets into the live final.
Once you hit your three FHWC ticket maximum, you can still enter qualifiers for the rest of the NHL season. However, if you net the highest point total in that contest as well, the top prize will be awarded to the second highest finisher.
There is no cash value for qualifying winners in excess of the three-entry limit, but if your lineup finishes in any of the other places that award cash prizes, you get the cash credited to your DraftKings account.
Prizes
Beyond the prizes during each of the season-long qualifying rounds, there will be a huge amount of cash on the table at the FHWC live final. There will be a $500,000 guaranteed prize purse, with $100,000 of that going to the fantasy lineup that wins.
Second place will take home 60 grand with $40,000 cash to the third-place finisher. All 40 qualifying teams will win a cash award with the lowest eight scores netting $4,000 apiece.
Each qualifier gets spending cash, free accommodations and a rink full of special perks. The qualifying entries will have accommodations for the winner and a guest for 4 days and 3 nights lodging in Nashville, Tennessee.
Strategy
Each satellite qualifying round will follow DraftKings standard fantasy hockey format. Goals and goalie victories amass the most points, so pinpoint a strong goalie and match them with as many goals as you can score with your lineup.
Each fantasy lineup card will have a pair of centers and another pair of defensemen. In the middle there needs to be three wings. You’ll add a single goalie and a utility player from any of the on-ice player positions. Maximum salary available is $50,000, which breaks down to $5,555 per spot.
It doesn’t matter whether your lineup of goal scorers uses the shovel shot, backhand or a slap shot. If your final fantasy total in any of the DraftKings FHWC satellite qualifiers is the highest, you’re on your way to an experience some Nashville southern hospitality.
In addition, you’ll be one of 40 fantasy hockey players battling for a $100,000 cash prize. Strap on your fantasy hockey skates, and hit the ice tonight for your chance to be crowned the 2020 DraftKings Fantasy Hockey World Championship King.
