Seattle Seahawks vs Atlanta Falcons (+3)
The Seattle Seahawks and Atlanta Falcons open their 2020 season Sunday at 1:00 PM EST in Atlanta. The Seahawks currently sit as a three-point favorite. Seattle is expected to have a successful season that has them near the top of Super Bowl favorites in the NFC. The Falcons, on the other hand, are not getting much respect entering this season.
Seattle is known for their run-first offense. Still, they have some solid receiving threats for Russell Wilson in D.K. Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and a deep tight end group that features Greg Olsen, Will Dissly, and Jacob Hollister. Unlike the majority of recent seasons, the Seattle defense will be the weaker side of the ball for the Seahawks. Seattle’s pass rush is a big question mark entering this season and without a threatening pass rush, the Seattle defense will be in for a long season.
Against a team like Atlanta, who has a former MVP at quarterback and plenty of weapons of their own in Julio Jones, Calvin Ridley, Todd Gurley, and Hayden Hurst, a weak pass rush is a major concern. In the past, the Falcons offensive line has been an issue and hasn’t given Matt Ryan the time he needs to make the plays he is capable of making. This year, the offensive line is expected to improve greatly as they have five former first-round draft picks and an experienced offensive line coach in Chris Morgan.
Atlanta’s defense isn’t expected to be among the league’s best this season but is better than most are giving them credit for. They have talent with players like Deion Jones, Dante Fowler Jr., Grady Jarret, and others.
Atlanta is a team that, at 50/1 odds to win the Super Bowl, is a sleeping giant that is just waiting to wake up this season. The offense has the DNA to be among the league’s best and Matt Ryan should be in for another MVP-like season behind an offensive line that should give him the time he needs to make big plays with big weapons. With a questionable Seattle pass rush, the Falcons should be able to pick apart the Seattle defense and not only get a cover but a win as well.
Picks: Atlanta +3 and Atlanta +125
