Jacksonville Jaguars vs Cincinnati Bengals
The Jacksonville Jaguars (1-2) will take on the Cincinnati Bengals (0-2-1) on Sunday at 1 PM EST. Jacksonville is coming off of an embarrassing loss to the Miami Dolphins 31-13 last Thursday night. The Bengals managed to tie the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday 23-23.
Jaguars’ quarterback Gardner Minshew has had a pretty solid season thus far, throwing for 787 yards with six touchdowns and three picks (101.3 rating). However, the Jacksonville offense as a whole has struggled. They rank just 21st in total yards, 21st in passing, 19th in rushing, and 21st in points. Surprisingly, they are the third-best team when it comes to 3rd down conversion (52.9%).
Cincinnati’s offense has been a disaster all season. The Bengals rank near the bottom of the league in most major offensive categories (27th in total yards, 24th in passing, 30th in rushing, 25th in points, and 26th in 3rd down conversion). Despite their rankings, Bengals’s fans have to like what they have seen from rookie Joe Burrow through three games. Burrow is 91/141 for 821 yards. five touchdowns and just one interception.
The Jaguars’ defense is ranked in the bottom half of the league in most major categories. Their Week 1 showing against the Colts was their best when they allowed just 20 points. They have allowed 33 points and 31 points in their last two contests.
Cincinnati’s defense has been so-so through three games. They allow the second-most rushing yards per game (181.7) but rank ninth in passing yards allowed per game (204). They rank near the middle of the league in points allowed per game at 24.7 (T14th).
The good news for Cincinnati is that their offense should only get better as the season progresses and Burrow gets more comfortable. His connection with A.J. Green has yet to sync up but once it does they can be a serious threat to opposing defenses. Running back Joe Mixon has been off to a rocky start but it should only be a matter of time before he can get things going as well.
Look for that Bengals offense to start clicking better starting with this week. Burrow should have his best game so far this season this week against a Jacksonville defense that struggles against the pass. As long as the Bengals defense can prevent James Robinson from having a big day, they should be able to hold Minshew and that offense out of the endzone throughout most of the game. Cincinnati should get their first win of the season and cover in the process.
