Slate News, Injuries, Vegas Totals, & Weather

Just four games tonight, and there is some rain in Minnesota that will be clearing out by first pitch. Both Milwaukee and Minnesota have implied totals over 4.5. Cincinnati, Seattle, and Texas also join those teams with over a 4.5 implied total. The Dodgers and Mets will roll out their best ace, as Jacob deGrom and Clayton Kershaw square off.

Pitchers

Clayton Kershaw ($10,200) – We have a battle of aces tonight in Los Angeles. Jacob deGrom and Clayton Kershaw square off. Kershaw comes in better form, and has a better matchup. He isn’t the enormous strikeout arm he once was, but sports a 25% strikeout rate and 13.2% swinging strike rate this season. He is also working ahead in the count just 60% of the time. The Mets have six bats over a 20% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Overall they are okay against lefties, but Kershaw is a different animal.

Cash Hitters

C.J. Cron ($4,800) – Hard to pass up on C.J. Cron tonight, who has a .515 ISO and .547 wOBA against left-handed pitching this season. Cron has been fantastic of late, and the rising price reflects that. Gio Gonzalez is on the hill, and has shown pedestrian stuff. Hitters have a 77% contact rate, and right-handers have a .343 wOBA and .175 ISO off him. Cron has a .378 wOBA and .276 ISO over the last 30 days, and his hard-contact is up 6% over the last two weeks.

Lorenzo Cain ($4,100) – Typically we target Lorenzo Cain against left-handed pitching, but he is leading off against a volatile Michael Pineda. The Milwaukee implied total has also been trending upward near five. Pineda has allowed a .388 wOBA and .277 ISO to right-handers this season. His hard-contact and flyball rate are also sitting at an identical 49.5%. Cain is also a SB threat in this spot. Overall his price comes in really solid, and his production can be relied upon. Cain is a strong cash play.

Kyle Seager ($3,400) – Kyle Seager is back in the lineup after missing the first part of the season due to injury. His price hasn’t reflected it yet, and $3,400 is a strong value for someone hitting middle of the order against Lance Lynn. We date back to last season, Seager has a .193 ISO off right-handers and a 40% hard-contact rate. Lynn has allowed a 43% hard-contact rate to lefties this season, and a .322 wOBA. We have targeted left-handed bats against Lynn over the last few seasons, and we can continue to do so.

Tournament Hitters

Yasiel Puig ($4,200) – Yasiel Puig has a .357 wOBA and .228 ISO against right-handed pitching dating back to last season, and his hard-contact is up to 40% as well. Puig has dropped off a bit this year, but has still flashed his upside. Mitch Keller is a young right-handed arm who has a promising future. He has made improvements the last two seasons, and is an interesting option long term. Puig comes in as a mid-priced option tonight, and has been better at home.

Wilson Ramos ($3,800) – If you want to take a tournament shot on a Mets bat, Wilson Ramos is one to do it with. He has a .393 wOBA, .171 ISO, and 9% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching this season. Ramos also has a .406 wOBA and .314 ISO off lefty sliders, which is what Kershaw throws the most to right-handed hitters. Ramos also has strong numbers against the fastball, sitting at a .456 wOBA.
