Top Pitchers
James Paxton ($9,300) vs Rays– In 4 of Paxton’s last 5 starts he has been excellent for the Yankees. In his last start vs the Rays he was superb going 6 innings and striking out 11 batters, and that will be the team he faces again tonight at home. His strikeouts have been inconsistent this year but he has shown in the past and at times this year that he can rack them up in bunches. I like Paxton in a home divisional matchup tonight.
Miles Mikolas ($8,000) vs Pirates– Mikolas has been a bit shaky as of late and has shown the tendency to have a couple blow up starts. But against the Pirates I think he has a great shot to get us value at this price point. In his last start against the Pirates he went 7 innings only allowing 3 hits 2 ER with 7 strikeouts. He has always been able to keep his walks to a minimum so I like his chances tonight against the Pirates in another divisional matchup.
Top Hitters
Yoan Moncada ($4,900) vs Royals– Moncada should really be looking forward to his matchup tonight against Jakob Junis. In Moncada’s career he is hitting .500 with 2 HR and 2 BB against Junis in 16 career PAs. He has also been swinging the bat well in general with 14 hits in his last 10 games for the White Sox. With this kind of numbers vs a pitcher who has struggled in limiting the hits I have no problems almost paying $5,000.
Keston Hiura ($4,600) vs Braves– Hiura has been playing great since he returned to the big leagues a couple of weeks ago. He comes into tonight’s game with at last 1 hit in 6 of his last 7 games and has 3 R 2 HR and 5 RBI’s in his last 4 games. He will be up against Braves SP Max Fried who has ran into some trouble as of late allowing 19 hits in his last two starts alone. Pick the rookie in confidence tonight at home.
Dexter Fowler ($3,800) vs Pirates– Dexter Fowler hasn’t been having his best season for the Cardinals but he will have an opportunity to get back on track tonight vs Pirates SP Joe Musgrove. He has seen success vs Musgrove, .571 with two 2Bs and 1 3B, in 8 career PAs. That alone is enough for me to roster him especially at this low price point.
Jose Martinez ($3,600) vs Pirates– Jose Martinez has also seen success vs Joe Musgrove hitting .400 in 10 career ABs. Martinez hasn’t got it going after the all-star break so far but right before the break he had his bat going hitting 3 HR in a hit streak that lasted 8 games. I trust that he can get that bat going again and at only $3,600 tonight I see no issues in taking a flyer on him.
