Top Pitchers
Jake Odorizzi ($9,200) vs Rangers– Tonight’s Twins SP Jake Odorizzi has been pretty good for Minnesota all season. He has been really solid over his last 3 starts only allowing a total of 2 ERs with 18 strikeouts. He will be up against a Rangers team that doesn’t have the best offense so he should have a chance to put up a real good fantasy performance. Odorizzi has scored 20+ FPTS in 3 straight starts and I am betting on the streak continuing tonight on the road in Texas.
Jeff Samardzija ($8,500) vs Diamondbacks– It wouldn’t be out of the question to say that Giants SP Jeff Samardzija has been elite over his last 4 starts and has shown a lot of really good stuff since the all-star break. He comes into this start with 3 ER total allowed in his last 3 starts and in those starts he has only allowed a total of 12 hits over 24 innings. He is striking out around 5 guys per start which is solid for a guy in this price rang. For the way Samardzija is pitching I am surprised we can still get him at this price and even if he is highly owned tonight he is limiting damage enough to where he can still be worth a selection.
Top Hitters
Trey Mancini ($4,900) vs Red Sox– Mancini has a lot of pop in his bat with almost 30 homers and 70 RBIs this season in a weak pretty weak Orioles lineup. He also comes into tonight’s game playing pretty well with 5 RBIs in his last 5 games. Mancini will be up against struggling right hander Rick Porcello who he has seen well over the course of his career hitting .500 with four doubles across 14 career PAs. Knowing all of this Mancini seems like a solid option tonight.
Jorge Polanco ($4,100) vs Rangers– Polanco owns an almost .300 average on the season and comes into tonight’s game with at least 1 hit in 7 of his last 8 games with 3 RBI’s in his last two games alone. He won’t produce a lot but he gets on base enough for him to be a solid fantasy asset. He has also shown signs of good play vs Rangers SP Mike Minor, .429 with two doubles in 9 career PAs. Getting Polanco at this price is very reasonable in my opinion.
Francisco Mejia ($3,900) vs Phillies– Padres top catching prospect Francisco Mejia is finally getting regular playing time and it is paying off. He comes into tonight’s game 17 for this last 33 with 8 R 2 HR and 3 RBI’s. He can flat out hit and he is showing it off. He is a young player so he hasn’t seen Phillies SP Vince Velasquez before but when someone has an over .500 average over the course of two weeks and is priced under $4,000 I am putting him on my roster.
Guillermo Heredia ($3,100) vs Tigers– Keep an eye out for if Heredia will be in the lineup but if he is I think he is worth a longshot pick priced at only $3,100. He is hitting .625 with 8 career ABs vs Tigers SP Daniel Norris, who has not pitched his best as of late. He has speed and has been able to get on base in each of his last 3 games. If you want to go for a top tier pitcher and save some salary somewhere else I think Heredia is worth a look if he is in the starting lineup.
