Top Pitchers
Chris Paddack ($8,300) vs Diamondbacks– Paddack had been struggling but he bounced back in a big way vs the Giants going 7 innings with 8 Ks and 0 walks. He will always be low in the walk count and if he is on he can be one of the best pitchers in the league. He has performed well vs the average and below average teams and has done well vs the Dbacks in the past. In his last start vs Arizona he went 6 innings only allowing 1 ER with 7 strikeouts. The strikeouts are a big point of his game and if Paddack can get it going he can be extremely valuable in this spot at $8,300.
Robert Dugger ($7,100) vs Pirates– Dugger has only pitched twice in the majors this year and his last one was something special when he threw 7 innings struck out 7 and didn’t all a run vs the Reds. He recovered after a shaky first start and will get to go up against Pirates who have been struggling for most of the 2ndhalf of the season. Dugger is a risky play with his lack of experience but I think this matchup lines up well for him. There isn’t a lot of talent after Paddack in tonight’s slate but I think Dugger is one that has some high upside.
Top Hitters
Nolan Arenado ($4,800) vs Dodgers– Arenado has been red hot for the Rockies and coming into tonight’s game he has hit a home run in 3 straight games and has a hit in 10 straight games. Not only is he playing well but he has played excellent vs Dodgers SP Hyun-Jin Ryu. In 28 career PAs Arenado is hitting a staggering .539 with 4 home runs and 4 doubles and is showing no signs of slowing down. His price is honestly a bit low in my opinion for the way he is playing even if the game isn’t in Colorado so I would roster Arenado with confidence tonight.
Marcell Ozuna ($4,200) vs Giants– Ozuna has missed a lot of time due to injury this season but he has still been a capable force in the middle of the Cardinals lineup. Ozuna still has 24 HRs and 77 RBIs on the year and, he is coming off a 2/3 night last night with a homer and he has been a solid player vs Giants veteran lefty Madison Bumgarner. In 15 career ABs he is hitting .333 with a home run and 4 singles. Ozuna’s price is very reasonable tonight for a player of his caliber so he is going to be on my roster tonight.
Ian Desmond ($4,000) vs Rockies– Ian Desmond comes into tonight’s game with a hit in 6 of his last 7 starts including 7 R 2 HRs and 3 RBIs. He like a lot of the Rockies have done well vs Dodgers starter Hyun-Jin Ryu. In 15 career ABs he is hitting .455 with 3 doubles and 3 walks vs the lefty Cy-Young candidate. There are a lot of weapons in the Rockies lineup and Desmond has the ability to knock them in. Lots of value in Desmond tonight vs a struggling Ryu who has allowed 14 ERs in his last two starts alone.
Brandon Crawford ($3,300) vs Cardinals– Crawford has been struggling at the play, hence the low price, but there is an opportunity for some fantasy points here in my opinion. He will be up against Cardinals SP Michael Wacha tonight, a guy who he has been great against by hitting .636 with 4 doubles and a triple in 11 career ABs. Other than that there is not a lot to go off of here but given the history I think given what we know he is worth a flyer at the shortstop position. Crawford has shown the past to be productive and is a veteran so he should be able to continue his good play vs this Cardinals pitcher.
