Top Pitchers
Wade Miley ($9,900) vs Mariners– Miley has been one of the best free agent pickups this season and has been a great piece towards the bottom half of the Astros bullpen. Coming into tonight’s game he has not allowed any more than 3 ERs in his last 12 starts this season. In his last start vs the Mariners he did well scoring 20.7 FPTS striking out 6 batters across 6 innings of work. The Mariners are just wanting to get this season over with and are in full tanking mode so I believe Miley will be able to take advantage of this matchup.
John Means ($6,100) vs Rangers– John Means wasn’t the sharpest since his return from the IL a couple of weeks ago but he has now put together 2 straight excellent starts He has pitched 7 innings in two straight starts and he has only allowed 3 total ERs in those starts. The Rangers aren’t the most powerful offense and Means is getting to start at home where he owns a 2.88 ERA in 13 games started there this year. Means is dirt cheap tonight and has very good upside for a guy in this price range.
Top Hitters
Mookie Betts ($5,000) vs Twins– Mookie is one of the best hitters in baseball today and even though his numbers aren’t excellent this year but he is still great. He is coming off of a game last night where he scored 2 R hit 2 HRs and knocked in 5 runs vs the Twins. He has also performed well vs tonight’s Twins SP Martin Perez, .364 with a double across 13 career PAs. Perez gives up a lot of hits and is coming off of a start where he allowed 7 ER so I like Betts to take advantage of this matchup tonight.
Alex Bregman ($4,900) vs Mariners– Alex Bregman has been swinging a great bat near the top of a potent Houston Astros lineup. Coming into tonight’s game he has 23 hits in his last 12 games and has a HR and two RBIs in his last 2 games. Like Betts, Bregman has had excellent history vs the opposing starting pitcher. In 15 PAs vs Mariners SP Marco Gonzales he is hitting .500 with a double and a triple across 15 PAs. When a plyer of his caliber is playing this well it’s hard not to have him in your lineup.
Willson Contreras ($4,200) vs Brewers– Wilson Contreras is one of the best hitting catchers in all of baseball. He returned from the IL in a big way last night going 2/3 with a solo home run against Milwaukee. Like a lot of players tonight I love him because of his matchup vs Brewers SP Chase Anderson. In 19 career PAs he is hitting .533 with 4 doubles and a home run vs the veteran right hander. He showed last night that he has no rust from his time on the IL and I feel confident getting him at this very reasonable price.
Ryan Braun ($4,000) vs Cubs– Braun isn’t the same caliber player we have seen in the past but he is still a viable option when he is starting in the middle of the Brewers lineup. He recorded an RBI two nights ago in his last start and has faced off vs Cubs SP Jose Quintana a lot of times in his career. In 46 career PAs Braun has two doubles and 5 home runs vs the lefty and at $4,000 I am willing to take the risk if he is in the lineup.
