Best Bet this Weekend
The Los Angeles Dodgers and Tampa Bay Rays play Game 3 of the World Series on Friday. Charlie Morton is starting for the Rays, and Walker Buehler is on the mound for the Dodgers.
Morton has been incredible in the postseason with a 3-0 record allowing 11 hits and one earned run in 15 innings pitched. Buehler has been just as good with a 3-1 postseason record. He’s allowed 15 hits, and four earned runs in 19 innings thus far. However, Beuheler’s control has been all over the place with 11 walks in October.
Both starting pitchers have an ERA below two in the playoffs as well, showing how important it’ll be for the bats to get going in Game 3. Also, both bullpens should be fresh heading into this pivotal matchup with the day off on Thursday.
In 2020, the Dodgers bats were much more dominant than the Rays. Both teams have scored at least nine runs in the World Series, which might come back down to Earth in Game 3. However, when looking at the splits when facing righties and lefties, the Dodgers edge increases over Tampa Bay.
Los Angeles has one of the best lineups in baseball when facing righties. They have a 126 wRC+ and .355 wOBA compared to the Rays wRC+ (105) and wOBA (.319).
Dodgers ML 100-1
Despite Buehler’s control issues in the postseason, he has been a more consistent pitcher than Morton in 2020 when looking at the advanced numbers. The Dodgers bats were limited in Game 2, but they were facing Blake Snell, a lefty.
Morton is a righty pitcher, which is right in the Dodgers wheelhouse on offense. The Rays bats have been struggling down the stretch, and although they scored six runs in Game 2, it’s hard to see that production from them with Buehler on the mound.
