NBA Primetime Saturday Best Bet: Dallas Mavericks at Golden State Warriors
Golden State Warriors ATS
At the time I’m writing this, we don’t have a spread for this game yet. However, when these teams played in November, the Mavericks were one-point home favorites. This time around, the Mavericks are in much worse shape as their top two players, Luka Doncic and Christian Wood, are out for this game. On a handful of occasions this year, we’ve seen teams struggle to cover inflated spreads against teams missing star players with injuries, but I like this spot for the Warriors for a couple of reasons.
Golden State has one of the best home court advantages in the league, and it bears out in their home-road splits. They are 19-6 straight up and 15-9-1 against the spread at home versus 7-20 SU and 8-18 ATS on the road – that’s the worst road ATS record in the league. Incidentally, the Mavericks have the second-worst road ATS record at 8-17 this year. The Warriors return home in this spot after two straight road losses SU and ATS against the Nuggets and Timberwolves.
Luka Doncic suffered his heel injury against the Pelicans on Thursday, and it nearly led to a road comeback win by New Orleans. When Doncic left with the injury with just under 7 minutes left in the third quarter, Dallas held an 84-56 lead. That 36-point margin was cut to 5 by the end of the game, and the Mavs’ inability to generate offense was the biggest culprit. I don’t see that changing on Saturday, and with the Warriors returning home here, this is a great spot to back the defending champions in a get-right spot.
