Chicago Bears vs Tennessee Titans
The Chicago Bears (5-3) will take on the Tennessee Titans (5-2) in a battle of teams on a two-game losing streak. The Bears are coming off of an overtime loss to New Orleans 26-23. The Titans lost to the Cincinnati Bengals last week 31-20.
Chicago has been an absolute nightmare this year offensively. Nick Foles replaced Mitchell Trubisky at quarterback earlier this year and the offense hasn’t really improved from the move. The Bears are averaging the fifth-lowest total yards per game. They struggle the most rushing the ball, rushing for the second-lowest total per game in the league. Chicago is also the second-worst third-down team and the fifth-lowest scoring team.
The only reason the Bears are at 5-3 is their defense. While they haven’t been the elite Bears’ defense that we have seen in previous seasons, they are still a very strong unit. The Bears are the best team in the NFL at getting off of the field on third down. Chicago is eighth in the league in points allowed per game.
Tennessee has put up some strong offensive numbers this season. However, the majority of their success comes on the ground. They have the seventh-best total offense but rank 18th in passing. It is their fourth-ranked rushing attack behind Derrick Henry that has been their strength.
Defensively, the Titans haven’t had the type of year they were hoping for. They rank in the bottom half of the league in most major categories. Tennessee is the worst team in the league at stopping opponents on third down. They rank 27th in passing yards allowed per game and 22nd in rushing yards allowed per game. The Titans are 19th in the league in points allowed per game.
The Bears have only scored more than 23 points in a game twice this season. That was against a very young Detroit defense in Week 1 and against the terrible Atlanta defense in Week 3. While the Titans defense hasn’t been very good this season, they should do well against this bad Bears’ offense. Chicago’s defense should be able to contain Henry as much as realistically possible. A lot of running clock and punts will keep this a low-scoring game.
