Around the Betting Industry
Florida Senator Jeff Brandes filed a bill Monday that would officially legalize sports betting. The bill, SB 968, includes guidelines for regulating sports betting and limitations on who can place a bet to avoid unfair advantages. The bill makes the Department of the Lottery the regulatory body. Sports betting would be allowed in-person or at betting kiosks.

Eastern Michigan vs Northern Illinois (+5) – 7:30 PM
It’s MACtion time as the Eastern Michigan Eagles (5-5) take on the Northern Illinois Huskies (4-6). The Eagles dismantled the 0-10 Akron Zips 42-14 in their last game. NIU took down the Toledo Rockets 21-18 in their most recent outing.
The biggest win of the season for Eastern Michigan came against a better than expected Illinois team 34-31. Three of their losses this season have come by more than 20 points. The Eagles’ 74th-ranked scoring offense is a pass-first offense that ranks 35th in the country. Their rush offense struggles as they rank just 117th. On the defensive end, they struggle even more. Eastern Michigan is 96th in points allowed per game, 87th against the pass and 100th against the rush. They are 98th in yards allowed per play.
The Huskies of Northern Illinois had a tough schedule by their standards early in the season. After taking down Illinois State in Week 1 (24-10), the Huskies ran into Utah, Nebraska, and Vanderbilt, losing all three games. Nebraska and Vanderbilt are having down years but they are still a Power 5 conference nonetheless. In conference play, the Huskies are 3-3 while the Eagles are 2-4.
NIU is 101st in points scored per game but has a decent pass offense that ranks 57th compared to their 109th-ranked rushing offense. The Huskies have a fairly solid defensive unit that ranks 69th in points allowed per game, 43rd against the pass and 87th against the rush. They are good at getting off of the field quick as they rank 24th in that category.
The Huskies have won the last five meetings between these two when at home. I think they have a good chance of winning this game outright and they should certainly cover the 5 points as I expect a very close game. The Huskies can throw the ball and their defense is very good for a MAC team. Getting ahead early and forcing the Eagles to play from behind will be big for this Huskies team.
