Around the Betting Industry
Maine Governor Janet Mills finally acted last week on a sports betting bill that has been on her desk for weeks. However, she didn’t act favorably as she vetoed the bill that received plenty of bi-partisan support in the legislature. “Before Maine joins the frenzy of states hungry to attract this market, I believe we need to examine the issue more clearly; better understand the evolving experiences of other states; and thoughtfully determine the best approach for Maine,” Mills wrote.
New Hampshire stands to benefit the most as the only state bordering Maine legalized sports betting late last year. Both retail and mobile betting is legal in New Hampshire so Maine bettors simply need to just cross over into New Hampshire to place their bets.

CFP National Championship: Clemson to Score First & Over 69.5 Total game Points & Clemson to Win vs LSU
+700 to +760
Although the total has dropped over the past week (currently sitting at 67.5 on DraftKings), it isn’t hard to imagine 10+ touchdowns in this game with these offenses. The Clemson defense is facing it’s toughest test by a mile so we will see how they hold up. This is certainly anyones game and if Clemson gets out to an early lead it is their best chance of winning. +760 is a huge payout for a bet as likely as this one.
CFP National Championship: LSU to Score First & Over 69.5 Total game Points & LSU to Win vs Clemson
+330 to +365
If this game goes the way LSU wants it too, they will score early and often. The Tigers (LSU) will be looking for a high-scoring game and while 69.5 is high, 10 or more touchdowns is certainly possible in this game. LSU is a 5.5-favorite and with their high-powered offense it won’t be hard for them to score first.

South Carolina State (-5) vs Howard – 7:30 PM
The South Carolina State Bulldogs (6-8) take on the Howard Bison (2-15) in a MEAC matchup tonight. South Carolina State is coming off of a 14-point loss to Morgan State. Howard is now on a five-game losing streak after falling to Norfolk State 71-63 in their last game.
South Carolina State is one of the worst teams in the country but they aren’t as bad as Howard. The Bulldogs are 252nd in points scored per game. While that isn’t very good, that is pretty solid for a MEAC team, which is the worst conference in the country. South Carolina State is 232nd in FG% (42.6) and an impressive 7th in FT% (78.35). The S.C. State defense is terrible (320nd in points per game) but they are still better than Howard in every category.
Howard is one of the five worst teams in the country at this time. Their only win against a D1 team was against a bad Hampton team in OT. The Bison are 276th in points scored per game (67.5) and they are one of the 10-worst shooting teams in the country (40% from the field). As bad as their offense is, their defense is worse. They allow the 11th-most points per game in the country (81.4) and the 12th-highest FG% (48.1). The Bison also allow a ton of rebounds per game (335th in the country).
While these are two bad teams in the worst conference, the Bulldogs are certainly the “better” team. The Bulldogs have had the tougher schedule and they actually have four wins against D1 opponents. S.C. State is 5-2 ATS in their last seven games while Howard is 3-12 ATS this season (worst in the country). It may not be the sexiest matchup but it is one that S.C. State should get a cover in. Howard looks like this year’s Chicago State, a team you want to be betting against all season.
