#5 Florida State (-0.5) vs Virginia – 7:00 PM
The Florida State Seminoles (17-2) take on the Virginia Cavaliers (13-6) tonight in Charlottesville. The Seminoles have been one of the hottest teams in the country as they have now won their last 10 games after defeating Notre Dame 85-84. Virginia defeated Wake Forest 65-63 in their last contest.
Florida State is 70th in the country in points scored per game. They are a Top 80 team in FG%, 3PT% and FT%. Rebounding has been one of their weaknesses this season as they rank in the lower 100 in the country. The Florida State defense has been as solid as their offense. The Seminoles are 65th in points allowed per game. They defense well overall from the field (71st) but has struggled defending the three (186th).
Virginia is once again the best defensive team in the country. They allow the fewest points per game and hold their opponents to the lowest FG% in the country. They are excellent at defending the three as well (25th). As good as their defense is, their offense is equally as bad. Only five teams score fewer points per game than Virginia (56). They are the eighth-worst three-point shooting team in the country and the 25th-worst shooting team from the field. Virginia even struggles shooting from the free-throw line (202nd).
This game is essentially a pick ’em. Florida State took down Virginia 54-50 less than two weeks ago at home. The task will be tougher on the road but the Seminoles are one of the best all-around teams and should be up to the challenge. Virginia’s defense will always give them a shot to win any game but their offense is just as likely to cost them any game. The Seminoles are obviously the hot team heading into this matchup and the momentum should help them take down the Cavaliers again. It will surely be a close game but it is hard to imagine this Seminoles’ team not getting a win here against a Virginia team that has only cracked 60 points seven times. The formula has Florida State winning 61-56.
