Around the Betting Industry
According to the American Gaming Association, 26 million Americans wagered $6.8 billion on the Super Bowl. There are currently 14 states with some form of legal sports betting on the books. More states are expected to be right around the corner. For states like Michigan and Illinois, who have legalized sports betting, each passing day without any sportsbooks being launched is costing the state money.
Residents from both states are still waiting on the first sportsbook to launch in their home state. Having missed the Super Bowl, the next major event will be March Madness. Both states have the goal set to be up and running by then.

Xavier vs DePaul (-1) – 9:00 PM
The Xavier Musketeers (14-8) head to Chicago to take on the DePaul Blue Demons (13-9). Xavier was 1-5 in their last six games prior to their win against Seton Hall on Saturday. DePaul is currently on a four-game losing streak and they have lost eight of their last nine games.
Xavier has been an averaging team on offense this season, ranking 162nd in points per game. Their shooting, however, has been well below average. The Musketeers are 197th in FG%, 299th in 3PT% and 317th in FT%. Xavier’s defense has been better than their offense this season. They are 131st in points allowed per game but they are in the Top 55 in both 3PT and FG defense.
DePaul was looking like one of the best surprise teams of the year when they started out 12-1. Once they hit conference play, their season quickly spun out of control. The Blue Demons are 116th in points scored per game behind their 106th-ranked FG%. From deep, they struggle as they rank just 252nd and they are just a bad from the line as Xavier (311th). Defensively, the Blue Demons are an average team as they are 163rd in points per game allowed. DePaul is a solid 41st in FG% allowed.
Despite DePaul’s recent struggles, I like the Blue Demons to get a win in this game. They are back at home after a couple of tough road losses and their season can still be saved with a win tonight. These are two equally match teams but I think the pace of DePaul will give Xavier some fits and I trust the DePaul scoring better than I do Xavier. The formula has DePaul winning this one 67-70.
