Eagles vs. Cowboys Regular-Season Opener Odds: Way-Too-Early Picks & Predictions

The first game of the NFL regular-season schedule was released on Monday, with the Eagles hosting the arch-rival Cowboys on Thursday, Sept. 4. Betting odds quickly followed suit, pricing the defending Super Bowl champions as hefty home favorites. Last season, Philadelphia outscored Dallas 75-13 in their two matchups, so that shouldn’t come as a surprise. Let’s explore the opening odds for Eagles vs. Cowboys, including early predictions.

Eagles vs. Cowboys Odds: Will Underdog Dallas Cover?

According to the odds table above, most of the best sports betting sites line Jalen Hurts and Co. as a seven-point favorite. FanDuel Sportsbook is the lone operator with the spread set at a juiced 6.5 (-120) in Philly’s direction. Meanwhile, the total is .

Over the last 20 years, the defending champs have gone 15-5 straight up and 12-7-1 against the spread (ATS) in their opening game. Still, they’re just 2-3 ATS in the last five seasons. In September 2024, the Chiefs narrowly covered a field-goal spread against the Ravens, snapping a three-game ATS losing streak.

Recent history proves that the betting market may overvalue teams that hoisted the Lombardi Trophy in the previous campaign. This spread could creep above the key number of a touchdown before all is said and done, which would create more appeal toward the road underdogs. For the first time in recent memory, Dallas’ power rating isn’t inflated across the betting market.

Granted, the Eagles’ roster is largely similar to 2024-25, and the Cowboys endured significant changes. They recently added George Pickens from Pittsburgh to pair with star wideout Ceedee Lamb. They also selected Tyler Booker in the first round of the NFL Draft to replace former All-Pro Zack Martin, who retired, on their offensive line. Martin kicked off his career with an 81.0+ PFF ranking in eight straight seasons and never tallied a grade lower than 65.0.

Unless Terence Steele, Cooper Beebe, and Tyler Guyton improve, Dallas will take a major step back up front after ranking fifth in run-block win rate in 2024-25. To boot, tailback Rico Dowdle, who rushed for 1,079 yards last year, left for Carolina in free agency.

The Cowboys responded by inking Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, a part of a running back by committee approach.

What’s On Deck?

NFL international games and odds are expected to be released on Tuesday, with the full schedule coming on Wednesday. Designated home teams for those matchups have already been revealed. The Chargers are set for Sao Paulo in the opening week of the NFL campaign before the Colts suit up in Berlin and the Dolphins head to Madrid. The Steelers, Jaguars, Browns, and Jets will take the field in London at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

Although the NFL season is less than four months away, notable free agents who could sign with either of these teams. For one, Dallas has been rumored as a potential destination for running back Nick Chubb.

Nevertheless, beyond potential key injuries, the odds for Eagles vs. Cowboys will likely remain on par.
