FanDuel Group Donates $1 Million To Assist Maryland Historically Black Colleges

FanDuel Sportsbook App LogoFanDuel has continued to grow from its beginnings as a daily fantasy sports app to one of the top online sportsbooks in the industry. The mobile betting app continues to make headlines as legal sports betting expands across the U.S. and beyond, such as the company’s deal with Sportradar as well as the addition of mixed martial arts events to FanDuel TV.

Most recently, FanDuel has made a major donation to a charitable organization for the second year in a row. Let’s look at the recent $1 million donation from FanDuel as well as other philanthropic moves the company has made.

FanDuel Supports UNCF With $1 Million Donation For Second Straight Year

FanDuel Group is once again collaborating with the UNCF for a $1 million donation. This will ultimately help the schools improve everything from technology and tuition to food security and other costs that come with college education. The donation will benefit four Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) throughout the state of Maryland.

The four schools noted in the press release from FanDuel include University of Maryland-Eastern Shore, Morgan State University, Coppin State University, and Bowie State University. Live! Casino and Hotel hosted the check presentation, with former Washington star wide receiver Santana Moss joining executives from FanDuel and the UNCF for the event.

This is the second time that the UNCF has received a large donation from FanDuel Group. February 2021 saw another $1 million contributed to the UNCF from both FanDuel and the then-Washington Football Team (now Washington Commanders). That particular contribution was focused on five different HBCUs throughout Virginia, along with funds to benefit those suffering from the pandemic.

Donation Coincides With FanDuel Maryland Launch

The announcement of FanDuel’s second major UNCF donation comes just a few weeks after FanDuel Sportsbook broke ground in the state. Online sports betting went live on November 23rd, 2022, just a day before the Thanksgiving holiday, which is itself a major day for sporting events. The launch saw FanDuel Sportsbook Maryland become available alongside other top sports betting operators throughout the state.

Now, anyone that can confirm their location in the state that’s within the legal betting age (21 years or older) can sign up for FanDuel Sportsbook Maryland and the many other mobile betting apps available in the state. While the betting market is still pretty new in the Old Line State, you can expect FanDuel Sportsbook to be one of the top mobile betting apps in the area.

FanDuel Also Collaborated With Nonprofits During The Pandemic

In addition to FanDuel’s contributions to the UNCF, the company has also collaborated with Frontline Foods, a non-profit organization aimed at assisting frontline workers as well as struggling restaurants at the height of the pandemic.

In April of 2020, FanDuel Sportsbook announced an $85,000 donation to Frontline Foods, as well as a special contest that would continue to benefit the organization. Thanks to the free-to-play Predict the Draft competition, any new user that signed up for a chance at the $10,000 would result in another dollar donated to Front Line Foods.
