It’s official! FanDuel Sportsbook is operating in Illinois. The popular online sports betting operator is partnering with Par-A-Dice Casino, which is located in Peoria, IL. The mobile app allows users to bet on a wide variety of sports and betting types. FanDuel also has a generous welcome bonus for new users. You get a risk-free bet up to $1,000.
FanDuel did everything in their power to launch as quickly as possible. In early August, Governor J.B. Pritzker decided to force everyone back to in-person registration before rival DraftKings launched in Illinois. Then, Pritzker did a 180 and was like, “Nah, I’m just playing; you can register online again instead of catching COVID-19 at a casino.” That is not a direct quote from the Illinois Governor, but he did open up mobile registration again.
FanDuel launched their sports betting app and started getting people registered before Pritzker decided to pull some good ‘ol Illinois hijinks again. So, as of June 2021 2020, you can register online and place bets legally and safely. If mobile registration is turned off again all bettors will have access to their accounts and be able to withdraw winnings. FanDuel is a legit US-based company and the 2nd largest mobile sportsbook in the country.

Competitors in the State
DraftKings was the first name-brand to make a move in Illinois. It found a loophole to avoid the 18-month “penalty box” period by partnering with a land-based casino.
This “penalty box” was made so that three brick-and-mortar sportsbooks could get a head start in the industry, trying to avoid the immediate competition with the big operators.
After FanDuel saw DraftKings make the move, it quickly joined in to get into the state. The sportsbook has a great opportunity in the city of Chicago, as there are plenty of professional sports teams to wager on. DraftKings officially entered the market on Aug. 5 and needed no introduction to sports fans. It partnered with Casino Queen to get its online app started right away.
This is an American-born company that has over 10 million players around the world. It has name branding in Chicago with Bulls legend Michael Jordan becoming a special advisor on the company’s board.
Governor JB Pritzker responded to the coronavirus pandemic by eliminating in-person registration for a period of time. This was also a big factor in sportsbooks entering the market so quickly. FanDuel and others wanted the opportunities to get bettors signed up all online. Since that loophole was found, FanDuel has plenty of competitors in Illinois.
BetRivers was the first sportsbook available in the state. It is operated by Rush Street Interactive, a reputable name in the sports betting industry. BetRivers has online sportsbooks in Illinois, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Colorado, and by the beginning of 2021, hopefully, Michigan.
William Hill made its partnership with Grand Victoria Casino. It is a sportsbook out of the UK that is also a well-known name in the industry.
The UK sportsbook has a physical location inside the casino with plenty of TVs and a great lounge area. William Hill just got its mobile app up and running on Sept. 12.
The fourth sportsbook in Illinois was PointsBet. This sportsbook has been active in trying to gain partnerships and sponsors, gaining a lot of news as of late. For Illinois marketing, it was able to sign former Chicago Bear Devin Hester to be a brand ambassador.
It recently announced a partnership with NBC, which will also be a huge benefit for the brand. PointsBet advertising will be available on the many platforms of the media giant.
PointsBet partnered with one of the three racetracks in the state, Hawthorne Race Course, to become active in Illinois.
Chicago has some great options in futures betting, and it comes with Major League Baseball. The city has two teams that will have a shot as the postseason approaches.
The Chicago White Sox and Chicago Cubs lead their divisions and are looking like they will make the playoffs. It might not be a bad idea to take a future bet on one of these teams to win the World Series.
The White Sox have the sixth-best odds to win the World Series at +1200. They have a high ranking in both runs scored and ERA. The South Side team might be the talk of the town in the fall.
However, the Cubs have a shot of their own. They aren’t far off from the White Sox with odds of +1600. Fans haven’t been able to pack Wrigley Field this season, but this team still has a shot at winning another World Series this season.
As the NFL season moves along, be sure to check out the movement of the Chicago Bears. They currently sit at +3900 to win the Super Bowl.

FanDuel and Par-A-Dice
FanDuel announcing its partnership with Par-A-Dice Casino comes as a bit of a surprise to the sports betting industry.
Last week I talked about how FanDuel was looking to enter the Illinois market through Par-A-Dice as they had a not-so-secret page for Illinois.
Initially, the rumor was FanDuel was looking to partner with Fairmount Park in Collinsville. The goal was for FanDuel to purchase the racetrack and be able to launch its sportsbooks that way while simultaneously getting around the 18-month “penalty box” period.
The issue was that FanDuel could not get the deal done, and then Fairmount Park was unable to secure a sports betting license as FanDuel got theirs. This caused a circus for the sports betting operator trying to find a home before Pritzker changed the rules again.
This is how they landed with Par-A-Dice. Last week, the Peoria casino did not have their license yet to host a sportsbook, but that changed as FanDuel is here in the Land of Lincoln. DraftKings and FanDuel are now both operating in the state.
What Does this Mean for Illinois?
Illinois gets another credible sportsbook to help grow the industry. With FanDuel entering the market, they are joining BetRivers and DraftKings as the three sportsbooks with mobile betting apps within the state.
Getting in early will help all three get an early lead in customers and revenue. Some other sportsbooks like PointsBet and William Hill are close to launching, and in better locations from a retail standpoint than DraftKings and FanDuel.
However, with the early market access that the other three have, they should be able to get market share in the Chicagoland area early on. Looking at revenue projections will be interesting, especially this football season.
Illinois is under the 80/20 rule, where 80 percent of the population is in 20 percent of the state. Although DraftKings and FanDuel are nowhere near the third coast, they should see a decent amount of revenue coming in from mobile betting.
However, it would not be surprising if other sportsbooks around Chicagoland have better in-person numbers. Those numbers might not be accurate as the coronavirus pandemic has casinos either closed or limited to 25 percent capacity.
Regardless, the Illinois sports betting industry is starting to pop. As long as politics stop interfering with it, then they will be able to grow organically over the next few years.
