Slate News, Injuries, Vegas Totals, & Weather
7 games tonight, but it could be just five. Games in Pittsburgh and New York have the biggest threats of a PPD and are risky cash game plays. This takes some plus offenses out of play, and spreads ownership elsewhere. Texas and Tampa are moderate favorites, but Cleveland and Los Angeles have the biggest win odds, and both opponents have under a four implied total. Los Angeles and Cleveland also have over five implied totals. Texas is the highest at 5.6.
Pitchers
Carlos Carrasco ($10,200) – We have been here before with Carlos Carrasco, and he is a tough guy to trust sometimes. He is allowing over a .200 ISO to both sides of the plate, but has a 29% strikeout rate. His xFIP sits at 3.26, and hitters have a sub 70% contact rate. He has a ton of upside, but could give up 6+ ER as well. Chicago’s projected lineup has a 26% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching, and a .156 ISO. The Indians are -194 road favorites, and Chicago has a 3.6 implied total. Carrasco also has a 7.5 strikeout prop, where the over is -108.
Cash Hitters
Justin Turner ($3,400) – The Dodgers had an epic come back last night, and now will face a gas can in Jason Vargas. He has a 5.56 xFIP this season, and is allowing over a .200 ISO to both sides of the plate. Right-handed hitters have a 50% hard-contact rate off Vargas, and a .357 wOBA. Turner at $3,400 is a solid play, as he has a .226 ISO and 57% hard-contact rate against southpaws this season. The Dodgers are a team to look at as a whole tonight, and from both sides of the plate given Vargas hasn’t been able to get anyone out.
Mallex Smith ($2,500) – If you are looking for a bargain, Mallex Smith is it tonight. Smith was sent down to the Minor Leagues, and has come back up stronger. His SB upside is high in this spot, and he has posted some monster games since returning. The matchup is a strong one, as Felix Pena struggles with lefties, allowing a .328 wOBA and .198 ISO. Hitters also have a 50% flyball rate and 43% hard-contact rate. Smith isn’t a power threat, but the SB threat is going to enhance his potential tonight.
Francisco Lindor ($3,600) – Manny Banuelos has allowed a .433 wOBA and .283 ISO to right-handers this season. Right-handed bats have a 38% hard-contact and 26% line drive rate off him. Francisco Lindor has a 43% hard-contact rate against southpaws, and is due for some positive regression against them with a low .235 BABIP. Lindor and the Indians right-handed bats are strong plays in a good ballpark against a weak lefty.
Tournament Hitters
Nomar Mazara ($3,500) – Jake Junis is allowing a .366 wOBA and .212 ISO to lefties this season, and a move to Texas is not good for him. The Rangers offense has been much better at home, and they are one of the better projected offenses on the slate. Mazara has a 50% hard-contact rate against right-handers this season, and he has a 19% strikeout rate. He has a .189 ISO over the last month, and a 50% hard-contact rate in the last two weeks.
Daniel Vogelbach ($3,600) – If you are looking for big power, Daniel Vogelbach has a .377 ISO and .446 wOBA against right-handers this season. With Felix Pena allowing a .198 ISO, 43% hard-contact rate, and 50% flyball rate to left-handers, Vogelbach is a big HR threat tonight. His strikeout rate is still a little high at 23%, but that comes with being just a tournament play. At $3,600 he has 2 HR potential, and the Seattle left-handed bats are good tournament targets on this slate.
Kike Hernandez ($3,200) – The Dodgers right-handed bats are in a strong matchup, and even the lefties are too. Kike Hernandez has a .408 wOBA and .233 ISO against southpaws. His hard-contact is over 50%, and he is projected to leadoff tonight. The Dodgers have over a five implied total, and I will be stacking them up on what should be a shorter slate than expected.
