Slate News, Injuries, Vegas Totals, & Weather
Eight games on tap tonight with run totals over five in Colorado, Toronto, New York, and Los Angeles. We have some stellar pitching options on the slate, like Zack Greinke, Jacob deGrom, Clayton Kershaw, and Justin Verlander. With Coors on the slate, it will be an interesting slate to build. Colorado and New York have some rain in the area, but nothing stopping them from playing. All eight games are good to go.
Pitchers
Jacob deGrom ($9,900) – Jacob deGrom has been tough to trust of late, but you can say that for most aces so far this season. Still, deGrom has some of the best stuff, and is in a good spot tonight. He has a 31.4% strikeout rate dating back to last season, and a 2.80 xFIP. He faces an Arizona lineup that has a .312 wOBA, .168 ISO, and 23.7% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching in that same span. Arizona’s offense has fallen off over the last few weeks, and still carry that same strikeout rate in 2019 alone. deGrom will square off against Zack Greinke as a slight dog, but have to like the sub $10,000 price tag on an arm with some of the highest upside on the slate.
Cash Hitters
Gleyber Torres ($3,800) – Gleyber Torres has a .396 wOBA and .280 ISO off right-handers this season, although most of that has come against Baltimore. In 2019, Rick Porcello has a 5.28 xFIP and has allowed a .200 ISO to right-handers. He throws his sinker the most to right-handers, which Torres mashes with a .514 wOBA and .342 ISO. Paying up at SS is where I will be headed tonight, especially with Torres. The Yankees have an implied total of five tonight, and Torres is a strong option in all formats.
Chris Taylor ($2,500) – Chris Taylor is a cheap outfield option, sitting with a .338 wOBA and .196 ISO off left-handed pitching dating back to last season. He will take on a young lefty, who has a sub 20% strikeout rate and 4.82 xFIP since 2018. Irvin allows a hefty line drive and fly ball rate, and hard-contact is over 40% to the right side. Taylor has been quiet for the most part in 2019, but against southpaws he has a .250 ISO and .364 wOBA. For just $2,500 he is solid value exposure to a hot offense.
Kendrys Morales ($2,600) – Rick Porcello has allowed a .327 wOBA and .188 ISO to lefties since last season, and has had his struggles in that span. Flyballs and hard-contact rates are also up for Porcello, but more so to left-handed hitters. Kendrys Morales provides some value on this slate, sporting a .338 wOBA and .175 ISO against right-handers in that span. Morales hasn’t had a ton of production this season, but he has a 40% hard-contact rate, and .369 xwOBA. His strikeout rate is below 15%, and a .192 BABIP is killing him. Good bounce back spot here.
Tournament Hitters
Paul DeJong ($3,700) – While there are two shortstops listed, that doesn’t stop you from using both on FanDuel tonight. Paul DeJong has a .205 ISO and .334 wOBA off left-handed pitching since last season, but his 2019 numbers are what really stand out. He has a .512 wOBA, .423 ISO, and 15% strikeout rate against southpaws. His strikeout numbers are down, and his hard-contact sits at 45%. He gets Jose Quintana tonight, who has been for the most part solid this season. Still allowing a pedestrian .328 wOBA isn’t going to have me shy away. Since last season, Quintana is allowing a .327 wOBA and .174 ISO to right-handed hitters. DeJong is a solid tournament play.
Rafael Devers ($3,900) – Over the last month, Rafael Devers has a .385 wOBA and .181 ISO. Everything has been pointing in a direction of Devers breaking out, and we have finally seen that. A red hot bad has been priced up a bit, but he is in a great spot tonight at Yankee Stadium. Domingo German is a solid right-hander, but has allowed a .223 ISO to lefties dating back to last season. He relies on that curveball quite a bit, and Devers has a .250 ISO off the pitch. He also has a .338 ISO off his fastball range. I don’t mind continuing to roll with Devers on his hot streak.
Domingo Santana ($3,300) – There has been home run potential on the West Coast, and more so in Seattle so far this season. Domingo Santana finally has a larger role, and has a .255 ISO off left-handed pitching this season. He will take on Andrew Heaney tonight, who hasn’t pitched much this year, but dating back to last season has allowed a .329 wOBA and .204 ISO. Heaney relies a lot on sinkers, throwing them 59% of the time to right-handers. Santana has a .487 wOBA and .286 ISO off lefty sinkers over the last few seasons.
