FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 6/13/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy points to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
David Price ($9,800) – There are a handful of ways to go on the hill tonight, but David Price stands out given his recent form. The matchup is also a plus, as Texas isn’t notable against left/handed pitching. In 2019 the projected Texas lineup has a 21% strikeout rate against left-handed pitching. Dating back to last season it goes up to 22% with a .290 wOBA and .128 ISO. Those are horrendous numbers for a lineup. Price has a 3.26 xFIP this season and a 29% strikeout rate. With his elevated strikeout rate, I don’t mind paying this price. He is a big home favorite, although that hasn’t translated much with Boston being less dominate this season.
Cash Hitters
Jose Abreu ($3,800) – Jose Abreu is a strong bat against left-handed pitching, and J.A. Happ has been struggling for most of 2019. I do wish Abreu was a little cheaper, but his numbers make it worth it. Dating back to last season, Abreu has a .228 ISO off left-handed pitching, and a .382 wOBA. Happ has been worse in 2019, but dating back to last season he has allowed a .208 ISO and .314 wOBA to right-ganders. With the high fly all rate, Happ is in potential trouble most nights.
Eduardo Escobar ($4,100) – The Diamondbacks are enticing bats again, and especially Eduardo Escobar. He has over a .400 wOBA and .200 ISO against sinkers. His groundball rate is also a plus, as he gets plenty of lift on the pitch. Escobar has a .246 ISO this season against right-handed pitching. Dating back to last season he sits at a .251 ISO and .353 wOBA. In that span, Erik Fedde has allowed a .367 wOBA and .177 ISO to lefties.
Gleyber Torres ($3,600) – The Yankees will be popular plays tonight, and deservingly so. They face Ivan Nova on the road in Chicago. Torres has a .363 wOBA off right-handed pitching since last season, and a .194 ISO. In that span, Ivan Nova has allowed a .323 wOBA and .174 ISO to right-handers. The Yankees have a healthy implied total over five. Guaranteed Rate Field is a nice bump for right-handed power bats as well.
Tournament Hitters
Tim Anderson ($3,400) – Tim Anderson generally moves up in the order against left-handed pitching. He has good speed and power upside and should be overlooked. While dating back to last year looks pedestrian, Anderson is better than advertised against lefties. Contact rate and batted ball stats are a plus. With Happ struggling, Anderson is a nice pivot at the SS position. Trevor Story should suck up a lot of ownership tonight.
Matt Carpenter ($3,200) – Attacking Jacob deGrom is never a wise thing to do, but he has been rockier than usual this year. He also gets in these modes where he pounds that high velocity fastball. This is where Matt Carpenter excels. deVrom hovers around 96mph on average, but will top out higher. Against his average, Carpenter has a .459 wOBA and .379 ISO. Anything north of 96mph, Carpenter has a .433 wOBA and .333 ISO. For $3,200 you can roll the dice in tournaments for a sub 5% play. You also don’t limit yourself and can play another 3B.
