FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 6/14/19

MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy points to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.

Pitchers

Kyle Gibson ($8,300)Kyle Gibson is an interesting choice tonight if you want to fit in big bats. He is just $8,300, and is a great tournament arm. In cash games you are likely plugging in a Gerrit Cole or Max Scherzer, who are both in great spots at home. Gibson gives you plenty of upside for a cheap price, and has a 25% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching this season. Hitters have under a 70% contact rate, and this Royals team is pedestrian against right-handers. In 2019, their projected lineup has a .310 wOBA, .154 ISO, and 21.3% strikeout rate against right-handers. Gibson’s strikeout rate has been climbing as it should have been given the whiff rates of his pitches.

Cash Hitters

David Dahl ($3,900) – I tend to avoid Colorado bats, but David Dahl is at a really nice price tag. He has a .384 wOBA and .216 ISO off right-handers this season. Cal Quantrill has allowed a .444 wOBA and .317 ISO to left-handers, with a 49% hard-contact rate. He has been tremendous against right-handers, so the lefties standout in this spot. Charlie Blackmon being the other one. Daniel Murphy is in play too. Pairing these guys with Gibson gives you a big ceiling in tournaments. Dahl is also a name I don’t mind paying up for in cash games, and rounding out with value bats.

Derek Dietrich ($2,900) – Derek Dietrich is loving Cincinnati and the juiced balls of 2019. He has a .415 ISO and .421 wOBA off right-handers. Jesse Chavez is a weak right-hander making a start, and while he looks worse against right-handers, lefties have strong bated ball stats. They own a 25% line drive rate, 38% flyball rate, and 45% hard-contact rate. Chavez relies on a sinker, and Derek Dietrich has a .399 wOBA, .236 ISO, and 48% hard-contact rate. He offers up plenty of pop for a cheap price tag.

Rafael Devers ($3,900) – Welp, the Orioles are bringing up a right-hander who has over a five ERA in the minors this season. Boston has one of the higher offensive totals tonight, and I want some exposure here. Rafael Devers continues to have a strong 2019, and he has made some excellent adjustments. He has a .381 wOBA and .206 ISO off right-handers this season. The strikeout rate is at 16.5%. Camden Yards is a plus ballpark for left-handed hitters, but Devers has even been excellent at hitting to all fields this season.

Tournament Hitters

Shin-Soo Choo ($3,600) – Shin-Soo Choo has a .414 wOBA and .266 ISO off right-handed pitching this season. He is in a great spot at Great American Ballpark, and will face Tyler Mahle who cannot get lefties out for the life of him. He has allowed a .378 wOBA, .263 ISO, and 44% hard-contact rate this season, and his track record is about on par with these numbers. Mahle relies entirely too much on his fastball to lefties, throwing it 65% of the time. Choo has a .403 wOBA and .214 ISO off his fastball range.

Jorge Polanco (4,200)Jorge Polanco has been one of the cogs in the machine that is the Twins offense. He has a .272 ISO and .432 wOBA off right-handers this season. He also has a sub 15% strikeout rate. Polanco will take on Brad Keller tonight, who has a 4.93 xFIP this season. Keller uses his slider heavily to left-handed hitters. Polanco has a .392 wOBA and .198 ISO off sliders. His contact rate is 83%. This is a tremendous spot for Polanco and the rest of the Twins offense.
