FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 6/15/19

MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy points to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.

Pitchers

Frankie Montas ($8,700) – We get a nice discount on Frankie Montas again, as he is in a home matchup against the A’s. The A’s are -206 favorites, and Seattle has under a four implied total. Montas has been tremendous this season, sporting a 3.50 xFIP and 25% strikeout rate. Pairing this with his 51.6% groundball rate, he has a lot going for him. He also has some strikeout upside in this spot, as the projected Seattle lineup has a 22.7% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Montas continues to throw his sinker, slider, and splitter with solid numbers against hitters. He also is going to allow you to fit some Coors bats in pretty comfortably.

Cash Hitters

Jeff McNeil ($3,100)Michael Wacha has struggled for the most part this season, and the Mets are intriguing options. Wacha has allowed a .331 wOBA and .169 ISO to lefties, with a 40% hard-contact rate. Righties even have a .414 wOBA, .269 ISO, and 40% hard-contact rate. McNeil isn’t a big power guy, but is a strong cash game option given his OBP. He has a .387 wOBA as well, and a 10% strikeout rate. For $3,100 he is a strong leadoff bat to target. New York has a 4.8 implied total, which is fairly high for the Mets when they are at home.

Didi Gregorius ($3,400) – Since returning from injury, Didi Gregorius has over a .400 wOBA off right-handed pitching. Dating back to last season he has a .361 wOBA and .248 ISO off right-handers. In that span, Reynaldo Lopez has allowed a .333 wOBA and .190 ISO to lefties. 2019 has been a bigger struggler, as Lopez has allowed a .393 wOBA and .231 ISO to lefties. The flyball rate and hard-contact rates are still very below average, and the Yankees are all big HR threats. While it isn’t Yankee Stadium, Chicago is still a strong place for left-handed home runs. The Yankees have over a five implied total and Gregorius isn’t going to kill you with the price tag.

Marwin Gonzalez ($3,200) – It is another good spot for the Minnesota Twins, taking on Glenn Sparkman. He has allowed a .364 wOBA and .200 ISO to lefties this season. His hard-contact rate and flyball rate are exactly the same at 46.8%. Throwing his fastball over 60% of the time is not a recipe for success. Marwin Gonzalez has a .360 wOBA and .191 ISO off his fastball range. With no strikeout upside from Sparkman, Gonzalez is a strong play in all formats, and you can still pay up for a 3B in your utlity spot.

Tournament Hitters

Eugenio Suarez ($3,400) – Mike Minor is a decent left-handed arm, and I usually don’t target him that often. However, he still allows a lot of hard-contact and batted ball stats are pretty pedestrian. Eugenio Suarez is also one to always at least look at against left-handed pitching. This season alone he has a .383 wOBA and .250 ISO off southpaws. In addition to the fastball, Minor mainly uses his changeup as an out pitch. Suarez crushes lefty changeups with a .419 wOBA and .348 ISO.

Rhys Hoskins (4,200)Sean Newcomb is drawing a start, and he has been used more as a reliever this season. Newcomb has strong numbers, allowing a .300 wOBA and .112 ISO to right-handers since last season, which should keep Hoskins price down. Hoskins is mashing lefties this season, with a .446 wOBA and .286 ISO. With Newcomb throwing his fastball over 60%, this is a concern in a starting role. Hoskins hits fastballs well, and he should fall under the radar tonight.
