FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 6/17/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy points to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
Mike Soroka ($10,200) – Mike Soroka finally got knocked around a bit in his last start, but is still viable against the Mets tonight. He is a big home favorite, and the Mets have an implied total hovering around four. Soroka has a 3.56 xFIP this season, and a 21% strikeout rate. His 58% groundball rate is a big plus, and he is sitting with an 11.2% swinging strike rate. New York‘s lineup isn’t bad, but it also has a 21.3% strikeout rate against right-handers. Because they will bring plenty of lefties to the table, Soroka’s left-handed numbers do not show any real concern. The strikeout rate is still there and groundball rate is over 50%.
Cash Hitters
Shohei Ohtani ($3,800) – Given how Edwin Jackson has performed this season, it is easy to target the Angels this season. You can look at their cheaper bats too, like Tommy La Stella, Albert Pujols, and Kole Calhoun. Jackson is allowing a .382 wOBA and .200 ISO to lefties this season. Righties have a .580 wOBA and .517 ISO off right-handers. Ohtani has a .332 wOBA and .216 ISO off right-handers this season, and dating back to last season he has a .408 wOBA and .307 ISO.
Eugenio Suarez ($3,400) – We are starting to see Wade Miley fall off a little bit. He is allowing a .170 ISO and .319 wOBA to right-handers this season. They also have over a 40% hard-contact rate against him. Miley relies a lot on his cutter, which Suarez has a .406 wOBA and .283 ISO off cutters. His .425 wOBA and .266 ISO off lefties since last season is also one of the main reasons we are targeting him here in this spot. He is at home in a favorable ballpark, and facing a lefty just adds to it.
Phillip Ervin ($2,000) – If you are in need of a punt, Phillip Ervin has a .360 wOBA and .214 ISO off lefties since last season. It is still a small sample size, but hitting 5th for bare minimum is worth a look. As mentioned above, Miley has been scuffling a bit more of late. It is another small sample size, but Ervin has a .373 wOBA off cutters. He also has a .373 wOBA off changeups, which Miley uses 20% of the time after his cutter to right-handed hitters.
Tournament Hitters
Tim Beckham ($2,800) – Tim Beckham is a cheap shortstop option, and he owns a .195 ISO off left-handed pitching. The strikeout rate is still rather high which is why I would target him more in GPPs. Danny Duffy has allowed a .335 wOBA and .173 ISO to right-handers since last season, and has an xFIP over five. Beckham’s .350 wOBA and .226 ISO to right-handers is a strong number this season alone. For below $3,000, I will fire him up as a salary relief play with plenty of upside.
Khris Davis (3,600) – Andrew Cashner has allowed a .391 wOBA, .244 ISO, and 35% hard-contact rate to right-handed hitters this season. I like taking the power bats here in Oakland, and don’t mind stacking them up either. Khris Davis has a .358 wOBA and .278 ISO off right-handed pitching since last season. Cashner relies on the fastball, and at this range, Davis has a .443 ISO and .484 wOBA off of. Davis’ price has dropped a little bit, and he is in a slump, but this is the best time to buy low.
