FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 6/21/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy points to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
Aaron Nola ($8,700) – There are a lot of pitching options tonight, and some standout as the obvious. Chris Sale and Trevor Bauer both take on two of the worst offenses in the league. They are also both over $11,000. Walker Buehler is also over $11,000 and is in a good spot at home. Aaron Nola is a bargain arm who can get plenty of upside against this Marlins team. Miami sits at a 3.1 implied total and the Phillies are -237 favorites. Lefties have had more power against Nola this season, but there is only two in the lineup and they have a combined .241 wOBA and .129 ISO. Overall this lineup has a 21.4% strikeout rate against righties, with a .115 ISO and .289 wOBA. Nola has a 25% strikeout rate and 3.82 xFIP this season. For the price, I will roll the dice on Nola even though he has been shaky at times this year.
Cash Hitters
David Peralta ($3,500) – The Arizona left-handed bats are the ones I want in this spot. Jeff Samardzija has allowed a .336 wOBA and .210 ISO to lefties on the year. This isn’t all that much of a surprise with Samardzija’s last few seasons of similar numbers. The flyball and hard-contact rate to lefties are also a concern. David Peralta is a nicely priced bat with a .250 ISO and .393 wOBA off right-handed pitching this season. Peralta also has good numbers against sliders, sporting a .393 wOBA and .325 ISO. Samardzija will use this pitch quite a bit to left-handed hitters.
Joey Votto ($3,100) – Joey Votto has been getting going of late, and has a .351 wOBA and .185 ISO against right-handers on the season. Much better numbers from a few weeks ago, and you can see how quickly numbers can change in a yearly sample size. Anderson is a flyball arm, allowing a 41% flyball rate to lefties with a 34% hard-contact rate. Votto matches up well with the cutter and changeup that Anderson throws a lot to lefties. He also will eat that mediocre fastball of Anderson’s. Votto is a nice value bat in a plus park for left-handed power.
Jorge Polanco ($4,000) – Jorge Polanco is a pay up shortstop option to target tonight, as he sports a .415 wOBA and .250 ISO off right-handers. His strikeout rate sits at 14% against right-handers, and he also has over a 40% hard-contact rate. Jake Junis is on the hill for the Royals, and has allowed a .378 wOBA and .220 ISO to lefties on the year. Junis has a decent slider, and his fastball gets absolutely hammered. Polanco has good numbers off sliders, with a .382 wOBA, .191 ISO, and 83% contact rate. The price is hefty, but he is a Twins bat to consider alongside the rest of them.
Tournament Hitters
Willie Calhoun ($3,400) – This is a game to target for offense on both sides, as we get two lineups that can do damage in the right spot. Well, they are both in the right spot. Reynaldo Lopez I am more likely to target in this spot. He has allowed a .393 wOBA and .221 ISO to left-handed hitters this season, with a 48% flyball rate. Righties have over a .250 ISO against him as well. Willie Calhoun is back and healthy, and over a small sample he has adjusted well to a transition into the majors this year compared to last. Love the Rangers bats tonight as one of the top stacks.
Anthony Rendon (4,400) – Dallas Keuchel is making his first start of the season tonight, and he pitched well in his minor league starts. I’m not sure many will turn to pick on him with a 14-game slate, so I will. Anthony Rendon has mashed lefties with a .421 wOBA and .308 ISO since last season. Keuchel is a good groundball arm, who uses a sinker followed by off-speed stuff to right-handers. Rendon has a .456 wOBA and .357 ISO off lefty sinkers, and has just a 44% groundball rate. Against cutters he has over a .500 wOBA, and he has over a .350 wOBA against changeups and sliders.
