FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 6/28/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy sports to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
Yonny Chirinos ($6,300) – Coors on the slate again, and some meh pay up options, I don’t mind going the cheap route. Yonny Chirinos might seem like a bullpen arm, but he has made ten starts this season. He has gone six ore more innings in each of his last four starts. That was against Oakland twice, Boston, and New York. He has quality start upside for a very cheap price. The Rays are small home favorites and Texas has a 3.8 implied total. The Rangers offense falls off on the road, and own a 28% strikeout rate away from home. The projected lineup against right-handed pitching has a 24% strikeout rate dating back to last season, and it is 25% alone this year. For $6,300, there is some real pay off potential here.
Cash Hitters
Anthony Rendon ($4,500) – Anthony Rendon against an average lefty? Yeah, sign me up. He has a .472 wOBA and .356 ISO off southpaws in 2019, and dating back to last season has a .415 wOBA and .298 ISO. Rendon has been one of the top options in the league against left-handed pitching. Daniel Norris has allowed a .341 wOBA to right-handed hitters since last season, and this season is allowing a .344 wOBA and .176 ISO. Hard-contact is up, and he doesn’t have much swing and miss stuff. Detroit in the summer is actually a decent hitters park, and Rendon should have a bit lower ownership than he should because of Coors.
Lourdes Gurriel ($3,500) – Danny Duffy has been nothing special since returning, allowing a .185 ISO to right-handers with an xFIP near five. His strikeout rate is below 20%, and the flyball and hard-contact rates are not in Duffy’s favor. This puts Lourdes Gurriel in a great spot, who has been crushing this season. Against left-handed pitching he has a .415 wOBA and .333 ISO. Dating back to last season, he has a .282 ISO and .410 wOBA. His strikeout rate also drops 10% when pulling in 2018 numbers. The price has gone up, but deservingly so. He is one of my favorite options, and someone I can actually trust in a good spot on this Blue Jays team.
Mike Moustakas ($4,200) – Chris Archer has not been the greatest this season, and dating back to last year lefties have tagged him for a .356 wOBA and .231 ISO. That ISO is up to .280 in 2019 alone to left-handers, and the xFIP is over 4.50. Nothing unlucky about what Archer has been doing this year. Moustakas has over a .300 ISO against sliders and changeups, and has a .190 ISO against the fastball range. This season alone he has over a .300 wOBA and has been excellent for a Milwaukee power bat. While the price tag is a bit extreme, he fits in well with the selected pitcher.
Tournament Hitters
Corey Dickerson ($3,000) – Corey Dickerson has been out most of the year, but still has over a .200 ISO against right-handers. Dating back to last season he sits at an even .200 for an ISO, and has a .357 wOBA. There is this belief that Dickerson strikes out too much, but the 13.6% strikeout rate says otherwise. He is cheap, moves to a better ballpark, and faces Jhoulys Chacin tonight. This adds up for a great value. Chacin has allowed a .339 wOBA and .177 ISO to lefties since last season, and while he throws that slider a lot still, Dickerson has a .378 wOBA and .294 ISO off sliders. His contact rate is also at 77%.
Domingo Santana (3,900) – Wade Miley has slipped up a few times of late, allowing a now pedestrian .317 wOBA and .162 ISO to right-handed hitters this season. The hard-contact rate is also at 40%. Domingo Santana has a .408 wOBA and .333 ISO off southpaws this season, but his K% is over 30%. That is why we can leave him strictly for tournaments. Minute Maid can be friendly for right-handed power, and Santana has a ton of it. It is a smal sample size, but Santana has a .575 wOBA and .263 ISO of lefty cutters, which Miley throws 48% of the time. On a 14-game slate, and at Santana’s price tag, expect him to be less than 10% owned.
