FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 6/29/19

MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy sports to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.

Pitchers

Zack Greinke ($9,500) – There are some big names on the hill tonight, and Zack Greinke stands out as a safer option. He has a 3.59 xFIP this season, and takes on the Giants in one of the better pitcher parks in baseball. The projected Giants lineup has a .320 wOBA and 21.1% strikeout rate against right-handed pitching. Greinke is holding both sides of the plate below a .160 ISO and .300 wOBA. While Greinke isn’t the Greinke of old with a below norm strikeout rate and whiff rates, he still has produced on the fantasy front. Brandon Woodruff draws interest in a similar price range, but the Pirates offense just doesn’t offer up a ton of upside. Justin Verlander is the highest upside, but also leaves you struggling to fit in bats. Greinke can get you that extra guy.

Cash Hitters

Jake Marisnick ($2,200) – While Jake Marisnick is a bottom of the order bat, he is bare minimum against a bad left-handed arm. Kikuchi has allowed a .370 wOBA, .217 ISO, and 35% hard-contact rate to right-handed arms. He has gotten worse over the course of the season, and will take on a tough Astros lineup that is finally healthy. Marisnick has a high strikeout rate, but a .347 wOBA and .215 ISO off southpaws dating back to last season. Luckily, Kikuchi isn’t missing many bats, as hitters have an 80% contact rate. We will get to the more expensive Houston outfield bat in a minute, but Marisnick offers up big salary relief on a slate that desperately needs it.

Yasmani Grandal ($3,300)Jordan Lyles has struggled with left-handed hitters, and is great against righties. He has allowed a .373 wOBA and .219 ISO to left-handers this season, and the 46% flyball rate is what we are after. Lyles throws mostly a fastball and curve to left-handed hitters, which Grandal tees off on fastballs, but does struggle against curves. For $3,300, we get a big power bat, as he has a .260 ISO and .381 wOBA off right-handed pitching. While generally we don’t have to use a catcher, there are a few exceptions, and Grandal is one of them. He is actually a bargain price when it comes to getting exposure to Milwaukee tonight.

George Springer ($4,400)George Springer is a non Coors pay up option, as he has a .373 wOBA and .225 ISO off left-handed pitching since last season. This season alone he has a .429 wOBA and .362 ISO off southpaws. With Kikuchi allowing a .370 wOBA and .217 ISO, this puts a lot of the right-handed bats in play. Springer has over a .200 ISO off left-handed curveballs and sliders, which Kikuchi throws mostly to right-handed hitters. Springer of course crushes the fastball range. Houston has over a six total tonight, and while it isn’t Coors, this is a spot where they can go off.

Tournament Hitters

Matt Chapman ($3,700)Matt Chapman has a .375 wOBA and .347 ISO off left-handed pitching this season, and has over a 40% hard-contact rate. Chapman will get overlooked tonight, and likely will most of the A’s if you want to use a few more of their power bats. Tyler Skaggs has allowed a .328 wOBA to right-handers dating back to last season, and Chapman matches up well against his pitch mix. Chapman has a 120 wRC+ in the month of June, with over a .200 ISO. His hard-contact is also up over 50% in the last 30 days.

Eric Thames (2,700) – The strikeout rate is on the higher side, but we know Eric Thames has big power upside. Against right-handers he has a .372 wOBA and .238 ISO. The strikeout rate is over 30%. Lyles is allowing over a .200 ISO to left-handed hitters this season and the home run potential is huge for the left-handed Milwaukee hitters. Thames is below $3,000, and gives you big power for a cheap price tag. Lyles has allowed 16 ER over his last four starts and three home runs in that span. Two of those starts have come against Milwaukee.
