FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 6/8/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy points to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
Max Scherzer ($11,700) – Washington come in as -169 road favorites, and the Padres have an implied total of 3.1 on the slate. They will bring eight right-handed bats to the table tonight, which is not ideal for facing Max Scherzer. Dating back to last season, he has held right-handers to a .243 wOBA, .131 ISO, and has a 38% strikeout rate against them. In general he has a 3.14 xFIP and 34.3% strikeout rate. Hitters have under a 70% contact rate. He gets a Padres lineup that has a 24.9% strikeout rate against right-handers dating back to last season. In 2019 alone, they have a 27.4% strikeout rate. The strikeout upside and floor in this spot is too good to pass up. Cash games you can look at Scherzer as your number one, while in tournaments I still believe his upside is unmatched on this slate.
Cash Hitters
Matt Olson ($3,100) – Matt Olson was in yesterday’s article with a two-hit night, and he only got bumped up $100. He is still too good of a value to pass up. Like yesterday he gets a bump going to Texas, which is a strong ballpark for right-left-handed power. Matt Olson has a .242 ISO and .354 wOBA off right-handers dating back to last season. Sampson hasn’t been as bad against lefties as he has against righties, but still has allowed a .182 ISO. Flyball and hard-contact rates are also over 40%. Sampson also relies on a sinker to left-handers a lot. Olson has a .311 ISO off right-handers. Matt Chapman is an honorable mention with a .447 wOBA and .294 ISO off sinkers.
Paul Goldschmidt ($3,800) – This game isn’t expected to be high scoring, as both teams are under a four implied total. Jon Lester has figured some things out this season, and dating back to last season has allowed just a .307 wOBA and .142 ISO to right-handed hitters. Not bad numbers. However, Paul Goldschmidt has a .405 wOBA and .256 ISO off southpaws dating back to last season. He has a 50% hard-contact rate and 80% contact rate against lefties as well. Goldschmidt crushes this fastball range with a .647 wOBA and .545 ISO. He also has a 48% hard-contact rate and .358 wOBA off cutters. Both are main pitches for Lester.
Brendan Rodgers ($2,200) – Brendan Rodgers has been one of the more recent call-ups, but in Colorado breaking through is tough. Usually a rotation of players continues, but Rodgers should be in the lineup tonight. We don’t have a real major league sample size, but Rodgers is bare-minimum, and has shown the ability to hit left-handers for power down in the minors. In 2017 he has a .500 slugging percentage against left-handers in Double-A. He had a .570 slugging percentage in 2018. Before being called up to the majors this season he had a .289 ISO. He has struggled so far in the majors, but is worth a look here for the price tag.
Tournament Hitters
Khris Davis ($3,800) – We should get lineups for this one, and it is the second game of a doubleheader. However, this is a game we want to target. Sampson is an average right-hander, which might be generous. He has allowed a .399 wOBA, .238 ISO, and 49% hard-contact rate to right-handers since last season. Khris Davis is always a multi-HR threat. He has a .278 ISO and 45% hard-contact rate off right-handers since last season. The A’s are firmly in play for both cash and tournaments. They get a massive park bump moving to Texas and have an implied total over five.
Trevor Story ($4,400) – I wouldn’t mind Nolan Arenado or Trevor Story in cash games either, but both carry a high price tag that will make them tough to fit in. While they are outside of Coors, they are still facing a lefty that allows a ton of HR production. Since 2018, Steven Matz has allowed a .324 wOBA and .210 ISO to right-handed hitters. Hard-contact and flyball rates are pushing 40% in that span, and both these names mash sinkers. Trevor Story has a .364 ISO off lefty sinkers, while Arenado has a .200 ISO.
