FanDuel MLB Daily Fantasy Picks 7/12/19
Contents
MLB DFS is a high variance game, but one of the more fun fantasy sports to play. Cash games you want to find consistent high floor pitchers, and the same goes for hitters. Tournaments you want to find lower owned bats and pitchers that carry huge upside. This article will point you in the direction of both.
Pitchers
Caleb Smith ($8,000) – I feel a bit better about this given Caleb Smith had a strong start before the break after an injury. He is still just a GPP arm, but love the cheap upside on a slate with a lot of expensive bats that are worthy of paying up for. Smith has a 3.70 xFIP and 31% strikeout rate on the year. The Mets projected lineup hasn’t been bad against lefties, but do have a 21% strikeout rate. Smith has also held left-handers to a .294 wOBA. There are three lefties in the lineup projected. Smith is a medium risk high reward arm.
Cash Hitters
Didi Gregorius ($3,300) – The Yankees come in as expensive bats, and deservingly so. The implied total is also over seven, which is higher than the Coors teams. Aaron Sanchez has allowed a .357 wOBA to lefties this season, and his hard-contact rate sits around 37%. Didi Gregorius is cheaper exposure, with a .367 wOBA and .167 ISO off right-handed pitching this season. Of course he has only been back for a few weeks now, but looks solid at the plate.
Tommy Pham ($3,600) – Dylan Bundy has allowed a .371 wOBA, .301 ISO, and 48% flyball rate to right-handed hitters. These are perfect numbers to attack with Tommy Pham. He has a .207 ISO and .360 wOBA off right-handed pitching this season. Bundy relies on that good slider, but his fastball gets crushed for a .448 wOBA and .361 ISO. Pham has over a .200 ISO against sliders and this fastball range. He also gets a bump moving to Camden Yards tonight where it is much better for right-handed power.
Matt Olson ($3,800) – The A’s are a sneaky stack out back in Oakland tonight, even if it is a downgrade in park factors. Matt Olson is one of the premium plays from the group with a .366 wOBA and .289 ISO off right-handed pitching this season. He takes on a low strikeout arm, as Ivan Nova has a 13.7% strikeout rate against left-handed hitters. He is also allowing a .384 wOBA and .223 ISO to them as well. The three most used pitches that Nova uses to left-handers all have over a .200 ISO allowed. Olson is a big time home run threat tonight.
Tournament Hitters
Jose Martinez ($2,800) – Robbie Ray is a solid lefty, but does allow a .192 ISO and 38% hard-contact rate to right-handers this season. Ray has allowed some pop to righties, but the strikeout numbers are still high. Jose Martinez is a cheap bat who has allowed a .481 wOBA and .358 ISO off left-handed pitching this season. Martinez is a boom or bust play against the slider, with a .304 ISO and 56% contact rate. Against this fastball range he has a .476 wOBA and .400 ISO.
Eric Thames (3,200) – Eric Thames is a cheaper first base option with plenty of pop tonight. He has a .265 ISO and .376 wOBA off right-handers. The good thing for him is that he faces a right-hander allowing an 85% contact rate. Lefties have a .331 wOBA and 42% hard-contact rate off Anderson. Thames hammers this fastball range with a .515 wOBA and .475 ISO, which Anderson throws 50% of the time to lefties.
